Local shearing contractor and local identity, Clem Henry, spent the best part of the previous week coordinating the event - and what an event it was! Portable yards were erected at the rear of the pub, and became the temporary home for over eighty sheep (courtesy of Karl West).
New hotel owners Pete and Neville were quick to say they were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and passion of so many locals, who did exactly what Clem asked and pulled the show together. The old outside bar sold amazing hamburgers and chips (thanks to local Tanya Kirk) and our publicans were on hand to ensure all patrons had everything they needed.
The “Open Teams” and “Seniors” categories were ably judged by Wayne Cockburn, Paul McGresham and Cahill O ’Shaunessy. Clem arranged for these formidable judges to attend, along with Master of Ceremonies Damian Leo. Damian handled the mic expertly, whilst in between switching sweaters and jumping onto the stage for his own unique demonstration of how to shear.
Time keepers John Williams, Maxie Coad (they train em’ young!) and Mazza ensured clocks were in sync and John kept the board updated for all to see.
The ‘Open Teams’ event saw Matlock take out 1st prize , Wade 2nd prize, no name 3rd, Meri and Judith 4th and fifth.
The ‘Seniors’ category was won by Brandon 1st and Ngapeny 2nd
Following the Quick Shear competition, all were invited to join ‘Karaoke Kings’ Nigzy and Donelle, to sing their favourite tunes until last drinks were called.
Thank you to all who made this event possible, and everyone who attended the fun evening! To keep up to date with more GODI events, find them on Facebook by searching ‘The GODI’.
