The Saturday morning saw over 108 shooters register with many family and friends also attending, gathering at the range to enjoy the weekend. People travelled from far and wide, with a few coming all the way from Port Hedland who make the Open Steel Challenge in Kukerin an annual event not to be missed. The cool morning and beautiful sunny days made for ideal shooting conditions.
Shooters and their families were spread all across town staying at the Kukerin Hotel, Mary’s Cottages, private houses, caravans, tents, horse floats and swags. The club facilities were very appreciated by the visitors, providing shooters and their families an opportunity to escape to the bush, enjoy fabulous hospitality and ability to compete in many shotting divisions.
The sport and event allows shooters of all abilities to compete including open shooter, ladies, juniors, sub juniors, seniors 50+, super seniors 60+, clubs and teams. The entrants this year included an 80 year old lady, a person in a wheelchair and a 13 year old girl competing in the Iron Person Event – there is something for everyone! Everyone is encouraged and supported to have a go!
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped in the kitchen and scored. Club members kept the ranges running smoothly and all events were completed without incident. A sincere thanks to all of the sponsors who made the prize table amazing!
The next major event will be the SSAA Steel State Titles in March 2019.
