90 unmarked graves with some going back more than 95 years will now feature an engraved marker stone thanks to Mr Bray’s passion and dedication to the cause. Mr Bray has spent a year and 8 months researching this cause.
Working together with the Shire, Mr Bray extended the call for donations in hope of raising $4,000. The generosity of the community and relatives of the deceased has resulted in a total as of this morning of $4, 240.
Mr Bray has sourced inexpensive marker stone, which was used for several hundred graves at the Town of Northam by the Rotary Club 25 years ago.
Mr Bray said, “All those buried there are part of our history and in their time, significantly contributed to building our community.”
“We are hoping to raise enough to make the markers mounted instead of just buried, so people can see them clearly.”
Donations are still being accepted with each marker stone costing $38.50 and can be done online through www.gofundme.com/nipperingcemetery or a trust account has also been set up by the Shire.
