Four local boys headed down the coast on Saturday to play cricket against Albany in this year’s Toyota Country Cup qualifying round.  The 20/20 format is a bit of a change to the normal 45 over cricket played locally with the winner progressing to the next round of fixtures.

The Upper Great Southern team did not have much success on the Saturday, losing both games convincingly so no deciding game was required on the Sunday.

Highlights of the weekend included Heady getting hit for one of the biggest sixes ever seen in Albany, Kal getting spanked for 32 off one over, and Conan and Dame copping some stick when it was their turn to bowl also. Not many runs were scored between the local lads either.

We wish them better luck this weekend as KDCC play Cuballing as normal fixtures return.

Kukerin Bowling Club

Picture
Kukerin travelled to Kondinin to take on the league leaders last Saturday. A very interesting and competitive game ensued. In the early stages of the contest three Kukerin rinks led and the fourth rink was locked in a close game. As the afternoon wore on leads fluctuated on a couple of rinks and one Kukerin rink began to take control, however late in the game one Kondinin side stormed away in the concluding stages to a large win and two other rinks also won narrowly to leave Kukerin with only one rink win and Kondinin winning the aggregate by a narrow margin of ten shots resulting in a  7—1 win to Kondinin.

Sunday saw the completion of the men’s singles championship. The first semi-final between Ian Faulkner and Clive Bahr was evenly and keenly contested early, however, as the game progressed Bahr gradually asserted his authority and won his way into yet another final. The second game between Peter Davidson and Tim Adams proved to be a thriller. Scores were even nearly all the way and at the end Davidson prevailed  25---23 in a very good display of draw bowling by both players.  The final between Bahr and Davidson was keenly contested and scores were locked together a few times but as the game wore on Bahr again gradually gained control to be Kukerin Club champion for season  2016—17.

The plate event final was won convincingly by Matthew King from Phil Adams.

Next Saturday Kukerin will be at home for the final game of the season against Karlgarin. This game has become a cutthroat affair as the winner will progress into the finals and it will be curtains to the loser. There will be bowls practise on Friday afternoon from 4.30 pm. Hope to see a good roll-up.

Country Alliance Coordinator says country voters should stick it to the Nationals and Liberals; endorses One Nation.

22/2/2017

Picture
In 2005 the Labor Government drastically reduced the representation of country people in our State Parliament with its so-called "One Vote, One Value" electoral changes.

The number of Members of Parliament in the country was cut by six, while eight more were added to the city.

The Country Alliance was formed to fight Labor's attack on country communities, with representation from the Regional Councils' Association, WAFF, PGA and the three main conservative political parties - Liberal, National and One Nation.

The Country Alliance defeated Labor's anti-country legislation in the High Court but eventually a defecting Liberal MP voted with Labor, giving it the numbers to pass the legislation into law.

Former Liberal & Independent MP Hon. Anthony Fels, said the Nationals and Liberals were very vocal against Labor's electoral rip off at the time but had done nothing since winning government to scrap Labor's anti-country laws.

"In 2005, Colin Barnett and Brendon Grylls spoke strongly in Parliament against Labor's electoral changes", Mr Fels said.

"But after they won government and had the numbers in Parliament to scrap Labor's anti-country electoral laws they did nothing to restore the voice of country people in Parliament.

"Country people should send Mr Barnett and Mr Grylls a message at the State election for failing to live up to their word and for failing to restore country representation in Parliament."

Mr Fels said the only major political party that had remained true to country people was One Nation.

"One Nation was represented on The Country Alliance and its members always have supported restoring country representation in Parliament.

"This is the strength of representation that country people really need in Parliament."

Mr Fels said if the polls are correct the Liberal-National government is facing the prospect of huge losses at the coming election, made worse due to the impact of Labor's electoral changes from 2005.

"Everyone knows the Liberals and Nationals won government in 2008 and again in 2013 because Labor was so much on the nose.

"Labor overcame this stigma and is set to gain hugely from the electoral changes it made more than a decade ago, simply because the Liberals and Nationals did not stand up for country people and scrap Labor's electoral laws.

New business in town, Transportable Shade Sheds

22/2/2017

Picture
There is a new business in the Shire! Damion and Susi Leo of Kukerin have recently become resellers for Queensland company Transportable Shade Sheds. TSS are already a very popular business in Queensland and have only just branched out to other states including WA. Damion and Susi spent two days in Perth at a conference learning all the relevant information regarding the entire TSS product range.

They can supply (and install if required) engineered and wind rated shade structures to cover just about anything, industrial shade sheds, compliant dangerous goods storage units for all chemicals, flammable liquids and acids, self-composting toilets, accommodation cabins / site offices as well as general storage units. Every product is 100% transportable and can be moved from site to site or around the grounds on which they are put.

All structures for dangerous goods are purpose built for the storage and handling of these items. These sheds meet all the Australian standards criteria and Transportable Shade Sheds are already the preferred supplier to many councils, mines and national parks across the country.

The well-known Transportable Shade Sheds range is perfect to suit just about any application. The product is very often used to cover boats, caravans, vehicles, tractors, trucks, animals, used on worksites to create undercover work areas for staff as well as in the schools, sporting clubs and day care centres to protect children from the sun and weather.

Feel free to browse the website - www.transportableshadesheds.com.au - for a full list of products. Please call Dame on 0427 646 043 or Susi on 0439 546 043 for further information or to enquire about a quote on a product.
