ROAD WORKS ON the cnr of Bennett St & Bahr Rd DUMBLEYUNG (Stubbs Park)
TRAFFIC DIVERSION BYPASS FROM 1st – 18th April 2019 (See Map)
Road works will be carried out on the corner of Bennett St and Bahr Road in Dumbleyung from the 1st to the 18th April 2019. A bypass road and temporary footpath delineated by orange netting will be installed to ensure pedestrians and traffic can continue to flow through the area. Traffic will be controlled with the assistance of traffic lights.

These works are critical in this year’s maintenance and construction program and need to be finalised prior to the changing season. These traffic control measures have been implemented as we realise the timing of these works coincide with the Taste of Dumbleyung. We have notified the CMCA Rally who will be staying at Stubbs Park of the arrangement and appreciate your patience during this time.

We realise this may be an inconvenience however for us to complete the task efficiently and safely we ask that you please assist us with the below:

  • Do not walk through closed work areas as works require the bitumen to be at high temperatures.
  • Be mindful of heavy machinery operating in the area.
  • Please adhere to traffic light signals when driving through the area

If you have any questions, please contact the Shire of Dumbleyung on 9863 4012.

We thank you for your cooperation.

Will Gaze, an Associate Grain Broker, will be joining David. Will grew up on a mixed crop and livestock farm in Borden and is currently completing a Bachelor of Agribusiness at Curtin University whilst working with Grain Brokers Australia – with an overall goal to push for and find profitability, productivity and sustainability on both sides of the farm gate.

We have been very lucky, in that we have not had much in the way of offences committed over the last couple of months. However in saying that, there have been reports of suspicious behaviour in Dumbleyung recently with people walking about at night and in unusual places; and the footy clubrooms and netball shed having been tampered with, and some play equipment at the primary school moved around.

Please continue to be on the lookout for suspicious people and behaviour and report these to us as soon as possible. Any piece of information is welcome but the more details, the more we can do with it. Car number plates and clothing descriptions are very important bits of information for us to be able to follow up on your observations.

Even if no offence is committed or reported, we follow up your reports and where we can identify the suspicious person, we certainly let them know that we know what they are up to. When the perception that our whole community is watching out for and reporting suspicious behaviour, the risk of getting caught becomes too great for people to consider offending.

Information can be forwarded to us by phone or by email on Dumbleyung.Police.Station@police.wa.gov.au

If you wish to remain anonymous, you can report through Crimestoppers on: 1800 333 000.

On a lighter note, the rain has arrived!! After a long dry summer, it’s great to see some of that wet stuff fall from the sky. This makes it a good time of the year to check the rubber on your cars, tyres and wipers. Keep yourself and your family safe by making sure you have sufficient tread on your tyres, at least 1.5mm, although we would like to see more. We change our police vehicle tyres when they go under 3mm.

Don’t forget the windscreen wiper blades too, nothing worse than turning them on for the first rain to find they are brittle, damaged or old and do nothing more than smear the rain rather than wipe it aside!

Now that we are getting some rain, it’s the time of year a lot of our community begin ramping up preparations for this year’s crops. I would like to wish you all a successful 2019 out on the farms, and more importantly, a safe one.

I also look forward to catching up with many of you at the Taste Of Dumbleyung on Saturday 6th April. This is a fantastic community event which showcases the bounties our little patch of the world produces and the amazing people in it. Get along and support the day!

Bowling Drought ends for Kukerin!

Pictured above: Kukerin Bowling Club celebrate the win
Last Saturday Kukerin Bowling Club broke a long-standing drought with the first pennant win in the history of the club versus Newdegate at Kondinin. The nail biter of a game commenced with two Kukerin rinks out of the blocks early, and the other two locked into an even tussle.  As the game progressed one early leading Kukerin rink kept control and the other one lost way and fell behind narrowly while the other two were still locked together.

In the latter part of the match Newdegate took control on one rink, two rinks continued to be evenly matched and Kukerin’s other rink still held control, however overall Newdegate had now gained the lead.  In the concluding stages Kukerin rallied and with only four ends to be completed, and the scoreboard locked at 91---91 the large crowd of spectators were to witness a drama-packed few minutes.  The first rink to finish saw Kukerin gain two shots, next rink completed saw Kukerin go down three shots. Kukerin’s third rink to finish saw possibly the pennant winning bowl played by the skipper’s last bowl when he trailed the jack to make five shots, and the opposing skipper fail in his attempt to alter things. This left Kukerin four shots up and the result now all up to the last rink.

More drama was to follow.  Kukerin gained the upper hand and the end was killed.  In the replay Newdegate held four shots early, Kukerin’s third with his first bowl reduced the margin to one, Newdegate’s third moved the jack to go back to four up. Both thirds failed to change things with their second bowl. Kukerin’s skip with his first bowl moved bowls a bit resulting three down. Opposing skip failed in his attempt with his first bowl which left only two bowls to be played. Kukerin’s skip managed to draw third shot and Newdegate’s skip with his last bowl had the opportunity to dislodge the third shot to tie the match, however his bowl was just wide leaving Kukerin pennant winners 98 shots to 96.

The ladies pennant competition was won convincingly by Newdegate who defeated Kulin.

We wish our ladies team good bowls and luck this week as they are playing in the Annual Ladies country week championships.  Also to Peter and Bev Davidson who will be competing in the over 60’s Mixed bowls state championships the following week.

Dumbleyung Social Bowls

Picture
Pictured above: A great group enjoy the last night of social bowls
Picture
The Dumbleyung District Club held social bowls every Wednesday night for the month of February and March. It was a great fun event to attend. Those who attended were put into teams and each week were able to play with different people from the Dumbleyung area.

Each game cost $5 per person per week with it starting around 6 pm, and play going for approximately an hour. Depending on the turn out you would either verse your team to see who gets closest to the kitty or if there were plenty of teams we played team verse team -which became very competitive!

Dinner was available every night for $10, generally with 2-3 different and delicious menu options!

There were many players over the duration of the six weeks of Social Bowls, some were new to bowls or just not very confident but everyone played really well and the social event was a great opportunity for everyone to have a go! Players were placed in teams with at least one person that knew how to play bowls which meant everyone learnt the proper way, was guided through the game ad rules and help was there if needed - which was appreciated by all!

Wednesday, March 20 was the last night of Social Bowls and it was a beautiful night! The new acting CEO for the Dumbleyung Shire, Allan Cooper and his wife, Debbie attended and it was great to see them amongst the community. A visiting consultant who was in town for a couple days also came along to meet the community and have a social game of bowls.

With plenty of numbers on the last night it was decided to play corporate bowls which meant team verse team.  It was a competitive and a fun night even though the score cards showed otherwise.

Many thanks go to Gough for organising this event and the Dumbleyung District Club for hosting the event and their support and usage of the grounds! Thank you to the fabulous cooks, Julie Biston-Kosar and Justine Hughes and all helpers that made the delicious meals every night.

- Dumbleyung Social Bowls

Kukerin Bowling Club

Kukerin travelled to Kulin to play in the second semi-final on Sunday in a do or die effort to reach the pennant final.  The game was played in ideal conditions which made for some very good bowls.   The match began with one Kukerin rink galloping out of the blocks, two others gain an ascendancy while the fourth was struggling.  As the afternoon wore on two Kukerin rinks kept in control while the third one was slowly reeled in by their Kulin opponents and on the fourth one Kulin were gaining a large margin. At the end of the game the result was two rinks to each club with Kukerin winning the aggregate by the narrow margin of four shots, to advance to the pennant decider next Saturday.  The final will be played at Kondinin against Newdegate who defeated Kondinin in a thriller on Saturday by the narrow margin of five shots.

There will be pennant practice on Friday afternoon commencing at 4.30 pm and it is hoped that all can make it, if possible.
