Hearts full of pride this ANZAC day in Dumbleyung

28/4/2016

On Monday April 25, the nation celebrated and thanked all those that have served and continue to serve for Australia and New Zealand. Dumbleyung was one of over 100 services held in WA and was well attended.

Hearts filled with pride as the march began, and the tradition of "two up" played on thanks  to a healthy attendance at  the Dumbleyung District Club for a light lunch,  following the day service.

Our very own Private Stephen Roberts and Able Seamen Graham Harwood  marched with pride. Now calling Dumbleyung home, Private Stephen Roberts fought in Afghanastan between 2010-2011 and Able Seaman Graham Harwood was with the Far East Strategic Reserves in Malay and also a gunner in the Vietnam War.

The contribution of both these men and all those others who have, and continue to serve for Australia, are why we call this great country home. We thank them and all Australian and New Zealand service men and women  both past and present

Of the 1.59 billion Facebook users in the world, seven are now more Facebook savvy,  thanks to a great 'Facebook for Business' workshop held at the CRC on Thursday April 21.

Donna White from Great Southern Institute of Technology (GSIT) hosted the short course and community members who have local businesses attended and enjoyed breakfast from along came Henry Cafe.

The short course included understanding the different options Facebook offers, how to advertise, target your online market, and how to read your business insights. Social media has become a very useful communication tool for many businesses and all who attended walked away with some new and exciting information to apply to their business.

Thanks to the Shire of Dumbleyung, who successfully received an iSeed grant, and made this workshop possible. If you are interested in social media, cyber safety or computer workshops let us know, email admin@dumbleyungcrc.com

Movies in the Garden will be held in the Dumbleyung community garden with fresh home made pizza and drink included with every ticket. Held in the community garden to encourage people to utilise this great initiative you'll taste the delicious produce on every slice of pizza.

Inside Out, released in 2015 is a fun, engaging and creative movie that questions the way people think about the way people think. So pack your bean bags, camping chairs and sleeping bags as we anticipate a great family night out.

Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per child. Tickets are to be purchased prior to the event from the CRC.

This event and pop-up cinema is to help celebrate Neighbourhood Centre Week May 9-15 and we thank Linkwest for supporting this event. The outdoor cinema is weather dependent and in the case of bad weather the movies will be relocated and ticket holders notified.

Over a dozen children and their mums sung, danced and laughed their way through this morning's successful Rhyme Time hosted by rhyming extraordinaire Mrs Gilfellon. Children participated in the the hockey pockey, sparkled bright when they did twinkle twinkle little star and quacked their way through three little ducks.

The morning included story time, rhyming and sing-a-longs and each child/family went home with a balloon and Better Beginnings goodie bag. The morning was fun and educational and the CRC thank Mrs Gilfellon for holding the session.

If you missed out, don't worry! We'll look to hold Rhyme Time again later this year.

A Splendid Saturday Market in Dumbleyung

23/4/2016

Picture
On Saturday April 16, the Dumbleyung CRC held it's first market day, providing community members the opportunity to sell  or purchase a variety of home made, handmade and pre-loved goods.

An amazing response from the community saw over ten stalls at our inaugural market day and an eclectic assortment of items ranging from home made fig jam and soy candles through to some very healthy plants at bargain prices and ready to make any home an oasis.

It was the perfect autumn morning for the outdoor markets which were held outside the CRC on Dawson Street, and the atmosphere was abuzz as many browsed the stalls sipping coffee whilst others chose  a brekky fix at 'along came Henry' Café.

The CRC Market Days will be held every three months. If you are interested in holding a stall, or would like more information about the market day, please click here to email or phone 9863 4829.

Local teenagers represent WA at U15's Hockey Tournament in NSW

Two local teenagers, Brooke Crew-Reid and Jack Pearce have spent half of their school holidays representing WA at the 2016 Under 15's Australian Hockey Championships in Wolllongong, NSW.

The Championships were held from April 9-17 with WA fortunate to have an array of talent and send a girls and boys, A (Gold) and B (Black) division to the tournament. Overall twelve teams from across the country competed in each league (girls/boys) with a number of thrilling encounters and games had during the nine day championship.

Home grown talent, Brooke and Jack we're both selected for the higher division teams 'WA Gold'.

Brooke was selected as vice captain of the girls WA Gold Team as this was her second time presenting WA at the U15's Championship. The girls WA Gold team played in the semi final Saturday April 16 and after a close game, unfortunately lost to Victoria Blue (4-3) finishing fourth on the ladder.

The boys WA Gold Team also made the semi final and played Victoria Blue to also (unfortunately) finish fourth overall with a final score of 4-0.

We congratulate both Brooke and Jack on such an amazing achievement and look forward to writing about more hockey successes.

Kukerin Dumbleyung Football Club

The Kukerin-Dumbleyung Football Club had a great start to the season - an away game they didn't let the home game advantage rule and defeated Brookton-Pingelly 24.16-160 to 11.11-77. Kicking a thumping 12 goals Wardy was a force to be reckoned with.

This Sunday, April 24 the club play Katanning Wanderers at home (Nenke Park, Kukerin) and all are encouraged to come down and support the team. Bounce down is at 2.30pm and the club are encouraging players and spectators to hang around for a Casserole Dinner at the Nenke Pavillion following the game.

A reminder for  all players to please bring a  Casserole dinner to share.
