Dumbleyung vs Allstars 1
28 May 2016

THEY DIDN’T REACH 100!

After a very successful My Designer Wardrobe netball club fundraiser the previous night, eight ducks ventured to the Katanning Leisure Centre to play what was to be a goliath match.  We were also down to seven players with a few ducks away, so Candice Ward donned the netball uniform to give the team extra support and encouragement.

It was a tough but clean match against reigning Premiers, Allstars 1.  They were simply brilliant and showcased their talent across the court by reading the play, strong intercepts and mesmerising passes but our girls gave it their best.  The fifteen goals we achieved were celebrated victoriously throughout the game and our defence played to supreme securing many rebounds.  We learnt at the end of the game that Allstars 1 were aiming to reach 100 goals, however our defence ensured that this did not happen and a credit to the strength of our defence.

The final score was 15 – 95 to Allstars 1.  Our next game is Saturday 11 June at 1pm on Court 4 against the Sapphires.  This weekend we have another bye as the Smarter then Smoking Association Championships take place at Wembley Sports Park from Saturday 4 June to Monday 6 June.   We wish the Katanning Netball Association teams all the best and look forward to hearing the results.

Dumbleyung Mens Hockey Club

The men played Wagin On Saturday May 28 at home, Stubbs Park, Dumbleyung. This was the first home game of the 2016 season and the boys went out with full steam and plenty of subs. Unfortunately they weren't able to come away with a win this week going down to Wagin 3-0. Thanks to the umpires for a job well done and to all the spectators for supporting the team.

Kukerin Lake Grace Hockey Club

It was a great day for hockey this week as we kept dry! We played the KK (Kulin-Kondinin) Vipers at Lake Grace. C-Grade was a 1 all draw, goal by Jack and award to Stella.

B-Grade lost 0-6 with awards to Trish and Rosie. Unfortunately, A-Grade also lost with a final score of 3-4 with goals by Ellie (2) and Tahryn. Awards for A-Grade went to Annie and Tahryn.

Training will be held in Kukerin this week and there will be no hockey this weekend due to the WA Day long weekend.

DUMBLEYUNG -LAKEVIEW GOLF CLUB
A good crowd turned out on Saturday 28 May for the Par event sponsored by Greenline Wagin. Winners of the mens tournament were Paul Ward on a count back from his Dad Howie with a score of +2, Gross winner Stephen Roberts.  Women's winner with a great +1 was Davina Gossage, runner-up on a count back was Margie Ward - 2 and Gross Tamara Bartram.  Novelties were won by S Roberts, T Bartram, J Ward, M Ward, L Smith, E Gossage, G Jose.
It was great to see the Netball girls grace the Club house again  after their game in Katanning.  Next week will be All Occasions - Margie Ward sponsored stableford.

WORKING BEE will be held Wednesday, 1 June at 12.30pm.  We need everyone on deck for a working bee to get the course into top notch for our Ladies Association Championship Foursomes which will be held on the 16th of June.

We need as many people as we can to get the massive job of cleaning up the fallen trees from around the course and manicure some of the greens surrounds.  If you can’t make it on Wednesday, please let Eric know.

Please bring chain saws, mowers, whipper snippers, rakes and whatever else you can think of (No dynamite for the big salmon gum on 6 boys!). A job list is being drawn up and will be left if you can’t make this Wednesday but have a spare hour or two or three to go out and tackle one of the jobs. If a good effort is done this week, the course will be set up for the Men’s open day on the 10th of July.  Catering and workers will be needed for the 16th of June and Davina will soon be sending out a request list.

It will be Lights, Camera, Action in Kukerin when Western movie is filmed this year

26/5/2016

Picture
Kukerin is set to star in an action packed Western feature film with over 40 cast and crew heading our way in the coming months. A gritty, character driven western, Decadent and Depraved will draw on many of the classic Western films. Decadent and Depraved follows the journey of Murphy a convicted murderer with a bounty on his head.

Logie nominated Perth actor Ben Mortley of McLeods Daughters is thrilled to be taking the lead role of character Leon Murphy (Pictured right). "I've been telling people that being in this film is like getting to play inside an archetypal young man's dream - of being a cowboy, riding horses, and having shoot outs with bad guys", explains Mortley.

Transporting Leon Murphy, convicted criminal is Captain Jack  Dalton played by A Country Practice star, Michael Muntz. The opening and closing scenes of the film will take place at Watpows Farm in Kukerin, whilst the rest of the film will predominately be captured in the Shires of Yalgoo and Leonora.

Capturing the stunning landscapes of WA along side actor and filmmaker Michael Muntz is director Jordon Prince-Wright. Prince-Wright is currently achieving international festival success for his short feature film Red Dirt which premiered in Perth and Yalgoo in 2015.

To do the script justice Prince-Wright knows that the appropriate funding is paramount. In addition, all in-kind contributions are greatly appreciated with the opportunity for your name/business to be added to the credits! If you can help with any of the below please contact Jordan Prince-Wright on jjsb@westnet.com.au.

Items still required,
- A Bus to transport cast and crew between accommodation and set
- Generator
- Horse gear e.g.saddles etc.
- Drizabone Jackets, spurs etc.

We look forward to the cast and crew visiting our Shire and following the films progress.

On Thursday May 19, a number of people attended  a fundraiser, for the Dumbleyung Hospital Auxiliary.

The numbers were a little down on previous 'Shoe Parties' held by Denise from 'Feet with Flair', however those who attended mostly made a purchase and so the fundraiser was a success. Denise had kindly donated 10% of her sales.

The Dumbleyung Hospital Auxiliary would like to thank the customers and those girls who helped with food and gave their time to make the day a success.

Successful movie night creates new local pop-up cinema!

21/5/2016

Picture
On Friday May 13, over 30 people attended a fun night out at 'Movies in the Garden' which due to weather was moved indoors and into the CRC.

Attendees watched the film 'Inside Out' which follows the life of young girl, Riley and her emotions/memories as a child and teenager. Each emotion (joy, sadness, anger, fear and disgust) came to life in the film and the funny and clever movie was well received and a hit with young and old.

Between the laughter everyone enjoyed delicious home-made pizza by along came Henry Cafe. Meat lovers and Hawaiian piazza's were on the menu which included fresh produce from the Dumbleyung Community Garden. Thank you to along came Henry for the mouth watering pizza's and for catering the event.

Everyone also received a soft drink and children sat back and enjoyed the film with a sweet treats goodie bag of chocolate and lollies.

Originally the film was to be shown outdoors, in the community garden but after a few very funny attempts to inflate the screen inside the CRC (which clearly was too large for the space) we rearranged the furniture to make the event happen. Thanks to Clem who helped us attempt to inflate the movie screen.

A successful event the CRC hope to host another movie night in the future, watch this space to see what movie we show next.

Movies in the Garden was made possible thanks to a Neighbourhood Centre Week grant.

  • Newly married, and your parents are insisting on a binding arrangement, (BFA)
              - help, what is a BFA???

This event will be held on Wednesday June 15 at the CRC from 10.30am and will cost $20 per person. This includes a morning tea catered by along came Henry Cafe. Urn coffee included though barista coffee available at  additional cost.
