This weekend there is a bye though the Allstars will be back on Wednesday July 4 at the GODI! Article by G Wilson Kukerin Golf ClubGood Golfing Weather Good Numbers On Saturday afternoon Kukerin Golf Club held a stableford competition sponsored by Elders. It was a very still overcast afternoon and a good group of golfers turned up for a hit. With the course starting to look more like a golf course there was plenty of green stuff to hit off, which made for some good scores and a very enjoyable stroll. When the cards were all reviewed Scott Gray was on top for the men with 37 points after a dodgy first 9, came home strong stealing the win from Barney Smith who had 36 points. Jenny Joyce and Debbie Smith were battling it out for the women. In the end they came in with 27 points each, Debbie Smith won the countback. Thanks to Elders for their ongoing sponsorship and Justin Wright for representing Elders and coming out for a hit. Saturday the 16th of June KGC had another stableford competition sponsored by Wagin Earthmoving. After a good round on a sunny afternoon the 15 golfers all got in, in good time. Tim Adams stole the show chipping in from thirty metres out on hole 3 to finish with 40 points and win the day edging out Karl West who got 36 points. For the ladies Jenny Joyce conquered the course coming in with 39 points with Debbie Smith runner up finishing with 33 points. Thanks to Wagin Earthmoving for sponsoring and the Hegartys for coming out for a hit. Next week is the third qualifying round sponsored by Kukerin General Store. It will be held on Sunday the 1st with footy on Saturday, come down for a hit. Article by S. Gray Dumbleyung Netball ClubTough day but Ducks still smiling Olympians 1 are the dark horse team of our Division 1/2 competition and the team to watch as we head toward the new round of competition after the school holidays. This team had speed, agility, power and could read the play very well and while our Ducks gave it their all, they were just far too good on the day. This is a great reflection of the level of competition within our Association and something our Club can be proud of, having the opportunity to be challenged by teams like Olympians 1 and continue our own development. The final score was Olympians 1 (80) to Dumbleyung (28). Best players for Dumbleyung, Roisin Ball and Jenny West. Thank you to Olympians for fulfilling our scoring duty on the weekend and a huge thank you to Brian and Eileen Lynch (Ro’s parents), for coming all the way from England to watch our game! (well, maybe to see their beautiful family). Our next game is Round 9 Saturday 30th June versus Allstars 2 at the Katanning Leisure Centre, Court 4 at 3.00pm. This is our last game as the combined division before we split into our final division for the season after the school holidays. It will be a great game and the outcome may be determined by the number of supporters on the sidelines as the Allstars Club have a solid supporter base - so come along and support our Ducks to help us soar! Article by P.Gooding Dumbleyung Lakeview Golf ClubWell we couldn't have asked for a better day to play golf, shame that most of the golf was quite ordinary, but to be fair the course was playing unusually difficult, well that is some of our excuse. Sponsors Kevin and Sharlene Powell, KRP Bookkeeping, supplied awesome sponsorship and we thank them for their continued sponsorship. Kevin did mention that he was half as good as Dave Wall (I think he meant his score) and though Sharlene did not quite succeed to her potential on Lakeview course this week as she did last week, she did nearly score a hole in one and did get the birdie in Katanning mid-week. Ladies winner yet again and improving every week, the consistent Elizabeth Dare with 36 points, though her pink wood just didn't want to behave this week straying into the bush, also her faithful blue stick tended to be quite erratic as well. Even with all these behavioural dramas Liz still managed to score 18 points on each 9. Runner-up was the hot to trot, holidaying Kununurra Mum, Margie Ward with 35points. Margie was extremely pleased to receive her prize, 1st edition exclusive mug, but what really excited her was winning the Birdie Hole. This is only the second time any lady has got a birdie and actually won the money and the elation can be seen in the photo. Gross Tamara Bartram 15. It was great to see newcomer Glenn Ball making his debut out at Lakeview, having not played golf for over 30 years. When asked how his golf was going? - "Football looks good." Trust me Glenn, always room for improvement in golf and the challenge to beat your last 18 holes keeps you coming back. The men's winner, making his comeback a winning one, was young Wade Cook with a great score of 38 points and he also took out 2 novelties. You are already looking slimmer and fitter Wade. Runner-up was another comeback kid, Marc Ball with his new upgraded leg, with 35 points and football is off his list of sports. The Gross was won by none other than the holidaying Kununurra Dad, Howie Ward with 17. When asked “How did the fishing go? Howie pulled out his phone and showed us an absolutely gigantic fish which he was holding!!!!! Fish tales can sometimes be very fishy. The other novelties were won by Jamie Dare, the 1st hit of the day for him and just about his best shot all day and Lee Smith playing only 9 holes but still taking off with a prize. Next Saturday will be a stableford sponsored by Galts of Wagin. Men don’t forget to get your partner organised for the Men’s Open on Sunday July 8th. A busy bee will be held next Wednesday 4th July, 1pm onwards. All hands on deck to get ready for the Men’s Open Day July 8. Please organise another time to pitch in and help out if you can’t make in on Wednesday. There is a big list of things to do! Queries to Eric Gossage 0428 641 013. Final score 5.4-34 to 4.3-27. Best players went to F.Spark, S.Shotter, S.Doney, F.Ball and T.Medlen. B Grade results The Cougars played a great game and defeated Wickepin by 70 points! The Cougars held the lead all game! Final score 14.10-94 to 3.6-24. A Grade results Unfortunately the A Grade didn’t follow the winning streak of the B Grade and lost by 126 points. Final score 4.3-27 to 28.15-153. Goal Kickers: J. Scafidi (3) and D. Ryan Best Players: J. Scafidi, R. Gooding, S. Capelli, K. Gooding and D. Ryan Dumbleyung Men’s Hockey ClubOn Saturday the Dumbleyung Men took on Wagin on home soil at Stubbs Park.
It was a great game to watch and Dumbleyung had the majority of the play. At half time they were up 2-1 but unfortunately Wagin equalled the score for a final result of 2-2. Still not a bad result. Goal scorers were Mark Smith and Jake Angwin. Better Players were Owen Wigg, Jake Angwin and Scott Angwin. This week’s games is at Stubbs Park at 3pm. Come along and support the men. Bain Estate Future Fund - APPLICATIONS OPEN Thank you to everyone that participated in the review of the Bain Estate Future Fund. There was a great turnout at the meeting, 23 surveys returned from those that attended and another 37 surveys from those that could not make it. There was a fairly even split between keeping the fund operating for 20 years, 30 years and forever for those that attended the meeting with a 10 year timeframe also being popular for those that did not. A large part of the feedback was that people were not set on these timeframes, provided that the money was not wasted. An overwhelming majority of the respondents were happy for funds to be spent on Playgrounds, the Pool, Halls and Community Facilities and Sporting Facilities. Taking the feedback into account, Council approved the following changes to the Guidelines and Application Form: • Any undistributed funds will be added to the lifespan of the fund. This will extend the fund past 30 years if not all the funding is used each year. • Community consultation is to take place every few years regarding the future fund distribution. • Principle 5 has been amended to say “The fund is not to be used for shire capital or maintenance costs of roads, plant and equipment, footpaths, depot and administration buildings, housing, shire employee costs, overheads or operating costs. Three additional changes that had already been made were: • If required, applicants must be available to attend the Council Meeting where the Bain Estate Future Fund applications are discussed. • Applicants must seek at least one local quote for each material or service. • The in-kind component was clarified If you are thinking of applying for Bain Estate Funding in 2018, you should already be planning your project. As part of this, you should get in touch with Mary-Ann Davidson to discuss your project. https://www.dumbleyung.wa.gov.au/bain-estate-future-fund LAST CHANCE - Dumbleyung Mini Mall – EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST The Shire of Dumbleyung is seeking expressions of interest for a Dumbleyung Mini Mall concept, where three small shops (Both permanent and pop ups) operate out of the vacant shop on Absolon Street. The concept will create a constantly changing hub which will also act as a small business incubator. This allows these businesses to experiment and learn with minimal risk, gaining confidence to develop their business into the future. Affordable & Low Risk • $17 per week each shop space inclusive of water and electricity costs! (If less than three shops apply, rent will be calculated for the shared price to equal $50 per week) • Sharing the time (Potential roster 2 days per week) • Request your desired rental period, 1 week, 1 month, 3months or more We envisage that either: 1. Two spaces would house small permanent shops, while one space would be made available for pop up shop bookings. The pop up space could be booked/utilised by individuals, community groups and touring shops. 2. Three spaces house three permanent shops. Shop display spaces would be approximately 3x3m with the additional space shared for counter and access ways (flexible depending on interest). Have you always wanted to have a shop but are short on money and time? The Dumbleyung Mini Mall could operate on a shared arrangement where as well as sharing the weekly rent, you can also share the time. For example if the Mini Mall is open Tuesday to Sunday with three shops inside, you could potentially choose to work together and roster two days each per week (This will depend on applicants). More information here:https://www.dumbleyung.wa.gov.au/localopportunities Interested? All we need to know is if it will be products or services that you want to sell/offer and if you are looking for a permanent or pop up shop. During the month of May the community raised over $1800 for three great charities and the Dumbleyung CRC. This year Chloe McDougall, Peter Joyce and Howie Ward were chosen at random to participate with the greatest donations to an individual to be the ‘winner’ and complete the challenge – a bush tucker feast (made possible with assistance from Wuddi Cultural Tours). The lucky (or not so lucky) winner is Howie Ward raising over $1000 for the Ronald McDonald House and the CRC. Now that we know the winner the challenge has been set and we invite the community to come along and watch Howie dine on a witchetty grub! The CRC have teamed up with Wuddi Cultural Tours to complete the challenge on Monday July 9 at 12 noon in the CRC. Howie will be given a number of bush tucker dishes to eat and we encourage everyone to come along and cheer him on (and make sure he keeps them down!). We have sent the donations to all the chosen charities with a thankful response from all including a lovely follow up phone call from Ronald McDonald House WA. Thanks again to all three 2018 participants and watch this space for photos of Howie completing the challenge! Country Arts WA and Act-Belong Commit are excited to bring Monty Cotton and his Johnny Cash tribute show ‘A Boy Named Cash’ to Dumbleyung this August as a part of Shows on the Go.
Join the velvet-voiced Monty Cotton as he pays tribute to The Man in Black in a rollicking, rip-roaring set that’ll have you convinced you’re watching Johnny Cash himself. From a job in financial management to singing Folsom Prison Blues, Perth-born performer Monty Cotton has had a storied career. In 2012, the singer quit an accounting job to pursue his dream of impersonating country music legend Johnny Cash. Three years later, Cotton was thrust into the national spotlight thanks to Channel 9’s The Voice. Since then, Cotton has performed the Cash songbook across Australia and around the world, crooning classics on cruise ships, serenading shopping centres, leading singalongs in pubs and clubs, and even embodying the mythos of The Man in Black with a performance in a prison. A Boy Named Cash’s regional WA run comes on the heels of a banner year for Monty Cotton that’s seen him play everywhere from a paddle steamer on the Swan River to sold out shows at the Perth, Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals. Country Arts WA’s Investment Director, Philippa Maughan, says the Shows on the Go program’s success is owed to its community-driven approach, focused on bringing professional productions directly to regional and remote WA communities where they would otherwise not be able to travel independently. “Country Arts WA is proud of our Shows on the Go program which has been running for over 20 years, supporting up to 40 communities and reaching more than 5,000 people each year.” The demand for Shows on the Go is growing throughout regional WA, with more community organisations, local governments and first-time presenters looking to bring high quality performing arts to their town. “Regional communities voted ‘A Boy Named Cash” as one of three Shows on the Go to tour in 2018. As part of the program, we support local presenters to build and engage their audiences and maximize the value of each visiting performance.” The Shows on the Go program is presented by Country Arts WA and Healthway, promoting Act-Belong-Commit. Healthway Chief Executive Officer Susan Hunt PSM, said that the organisation has proudly supported Shows on the Go since its inception, and this year will provide $110,000 to deliver the Act-Belong-Commit mental health message throughout this and other programs. “Being active along with having a sense of belonging and purpose in life all contributes to good mental health and wellbeing.” “The Act-Belong-Commit message fits well with ‘A Boy Named Cash’, as it offers a great way for people in regional WA to come together, celebrate and enjoy the shared experience of reliving the classic songs of a musical legend,” Ms Hunt said. For more information on A Boy Named Cash, visit http://www.countryartswa.asn.au/cash Licensing Closed - 15th to 25th of June 2018
