A local couple now have hundreds of thousands of reasons why you gotta be in it to win it!

A Dumbleyung couple have won $100,000 from a scratchie they purchased at the Dumbleyung General Store.

Undecided whether to chose her $10 word play ticket from the top or bottom of the pile, it proved the woman's choice from the top was the lucky one!

The lucky winner told Lotterywest, "It was meant to be."

Initially in shock from scratching the ticket at work, the winner scanned the ticket at the general store several times to check it was real.

“It’s a really great feeling to win but it’s still so surreal!” said the winners.

The couple said their prize money will make their retirement years easier when the times comes to retire and they will take their time deciding what they would like to do.

The children enjoyed fresh fruit afterwards in the sandpit area as the mums caught up over coffee.

Audiences give the Dumbleyung Theatre Club “Three Thumbs Up” for their threesome.

Picture
More than 115 people flocked the Dumbleyung Hall over the weekend to watch this years production by the Dumbleyung Theatre Club.

The threesome of short acts, The Last tango in Dongo, The Call Centre and The Honeymoon, were performed over two nights.

Scattered with references to many well known locals, the production itself attracted new performers and some familiar old faces.

The trio of acts provided some good old fashioned laughs with bra flashing, a baby being born and some risqué dancing, which made it hard not to enjoy.

Big congratulations to everyone who made this years production possible, especially the members of the Dumbleyung Theatre Club.

Well done to all teams on a successful season.

Dumbleyung Men's Hockey Club

The Dumbleyung B Grade men played their final game of the season prior to finals at Stubbs Park in Dumbleyung on Saturday against Williams. They came away with a 2-2 draw with an early goal by Courtney Bairstow and a goal in the dying minutes of the game by Scott Angwin.

Better players were Courtney Bairstow, Marshall Henry and Scott Angwin.

Raising awareness for depression and suicide, the participants of this years Black Dog Ride were welcomed with open arms by members of the Dumbleyung Men’s Shed for lunch and a pit stop to refuel as part of their first days travel.

Departing from Busselton early Thursday morning, the group travelled to Dumbleyung for lunch to refuel their bellies and tanks, before making their way to Hyden to complete their first day of travel.
Men’s Shed Representative Graham Wilson said, “Mental health is an important part of what we do and we strongly support any initiative that supports mental health.  To show our appreciation for the participant’s efforts we supplied the lunch free of charge.”

Dumbleyung Men’s Shed also presented the group with a cheque for $300.

All proceeds raised go towards their continued funding of Lifeline’s Online Crisis Support chat service and Mental Health First Aid’s teen MHFA program in Australia Secondary Schools.

Congratulations to all trophy recipients announced at the recent Association presentations.

Dumbleyung Netball Club

Last game of the season for our Ducks

In what was nearly a forfeited game by Katanning team, Fusion, our Dumbleyung Ducks were able to play their last game of the season with a last minute timeslot reschedule.  We also recruited two new recruits in Adele and Ebony Smith who both played fantastically in their first senior netball game.  Adele and Ebony spent much of their primary school years watching Mum Elspeth play netball and it was wonderful to see them playing along side their Mum!

The game was quite intense with Fusion needing to win this game to make it to the finals and they put great pressure on our Ducks across the whole court.  With accurate goal scoring Fusion got away early.  Our defence and centre court players were kept on their toes and with some fantastic intercepts were able to work the ball down to our goal end.

Our supports were in force on the weekend, cheering on our Ducks throughout the game and although our girls played one of their best games this season the final score did not go our way.  Fusion were victorious in the end 44 to our 21 and thus our final game for the season.

Our Ducks celebrated the end of season back at the Dumbleyung Club with drinks and dinner.  Thank you to Carly and Clare for organising our get together and to Tanya Kirk for keeping our thirst quenched and for the scrumptious buffet dinner.

And finally well done to our Ducks for pursuing the season they have.  Playing in the Division 1/2 grade presented many challenges and while it didn’t show on the scorecard how well we all played, feel proud knowing you have all stepped up to the challenge this year.  Thank you to Janelle for coaching our team in your inaugural year as coach.  It was a tough year but well done on a stellar effort.  Thank you to all of our supporters throughout our season on and off the court and to fellow readers of the Quack Chat, we hope you have enjoyed our Netball Club updates.

Our awards presentation will take place at the Annual Winter Sports Windup to be held at the Dumbleyung Hall, Friday 16 September.  Tickets are on sale now.  If you require more information please contact the Dumbleyung CRC.

Dumbleyung Men's Hockey Club

Dumbleyung play Williams in Dumbleyung 3pm on Saturday 27th August so hopefully there won't be too many tired attendees after the play night.

Lakeview Golf Club

Captain Marc Ball blitzed the field on Saturday with a 83 off the stick 66 nett winning the Burando Hill trophy, the Birdie Hole and the MM  for the day.  This amazing finish saw him qualify 2nd in the A Grade  the runner-up, although only hitting 5 drives on fairway, the rest in the bush,  playing the game of his life, and for the 1st time hitting under 90  with an 88 off the stick, 69 nett was Jamie Dare.

Gross was won by the ever reliable Eric Gossage with an 85.  The women were out in force,  Ladies winner was T Bartram 73nett.   Runner-up Cheryl Snell, who commented that she didn't get to sleep after the big win in the Holden Scramble on Sunday until after 12 that night, with a best score for a long time and no windies, with a 74nettt;  and it was great to see Karen Ward back, winning the gross for the day. The rain fell and 1 lady, no names mentioned but her hair is sort of redish and curly and  the youngest, decided to retire to watch the Football? or whatever, but give her credit we did see her back for the BBQ.    Novelties were won by Marc, Karen, Jamie, Howie, Eric.  The putting competition saw Jamie Dare winning with 25putts - no wonder he played so well.

The coming Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 will see the 1st & 2nd Elimination Finals being played.    Please do not be late.  The winners will go on to play on Sunday - times to be decided after Saturday's play.  The B Grade will be a straight final on Saturday 10 September with Lee Smith playing Bob Hannah.

The draw for the A Grade is below.

Lake Grace-Kukerin Hockey

The weather was beautiful this week as Lake Grace Kukerin travelled to Corrigin for the semi finals.
C grade was a great game but unfortunately lost to Bruce rock when it went to flicks 2-1. Awards went to all the kids for a great game and season. Thanks Stevie for coaching.

The sun was shining bright for the B grade as they came out fighting and didn't give up winning the game 1-0 goal from Tayah.

Good luck for next week's preliminary final as they take on KK vipers in Narambeen.

The A grade had a hard game against Bruce Rock unfortunately going down 2-1 goal to Anna Taylor.

Well done to all the girls. Thanks Anna for coaching.
