Last Saturday September 21, the Lower Great Southern Hockey Grand finals were played in Albany.  Many ex local girls played and further won their Ladies A Grade Hockey Grand Final with a close win, final score of Many Peaks 1- to North Albany-0. Playing for Many Peaks were ex-locals Marisa and Charlotte Edwards, Sienna Ball and Darcy Ward, along with Alice Lydiate, ex Wagin and Craig Gambrell, ex Narrogin as coach. It was a tight game with Many Peaks only scoring in the last five minutes to win the game! Alice Lydiate was voted best on ground for the grand final – well done!

Earlier in the afternoon, Trish & John Leo’s Granddaughter Shannon Leo (ex Kukerin) and neighbouring, Louise Quartermaine from Wagin were in the winning team for the Girls Year 9 and 10 team from the Great Southern Grammar School who had Darcy Ward as their coach.

Well done to all involved and a great 2019 season!

Paws Walk'n'Talk

25/9/2019

Whilst it is normal for life to flow and ebb with ups and downs, sometimes the downs can seem to take over and become overwhelming.  A great way to lift the spirit and get the good hormones flowing is to go for a walk, have a chat with a friend or spend time with a pet.

This Mental Health Week we have combined these wonderful uplifting options and organised a Paws Walk ‘n’ Talk on Tuesday October 8th.  Bring a long your dog (on a leash), or maybe even borrow a neighbours four legged friend and go for a wander and chat. No pet - no worries - you’re more than welcome to attend without your four legged friend too!

The event will leave from the side of the Dumbleyung CRC at 9.30am and will include an animal and owner participant focussed stroll around town, maybe even taking in some wildflowers on the way!

Mental Health Week runs from 6th to 12th October 2019, and has been running for more than 50 years.  It is coordinated by the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH), with support of the Government of Western Australia, Mental Health Commission and Lotterywest. The focus is on how we live, learn, work and play – realising it’s a combination of factors which impact our mental wellbeing.

Please pop into the Dumbleyung CRC, email admin@dumbleyungcrc.com or call 9863 4829 to register your (and your four legged friends) interest.

More information, links (including a wellness wheel) and resources can be found by visiting https://mhw.waamh.org.au.

Your morning or afternoon coffee fix will now be met with a familiar but different face as Along Came Henry café now has a new owner, Tania Wirth! After four great years of coffee, breakfast and lunch, owner/operator and the person who opened the doors to Along Came Henry café in mid-2015 Marilyn Hasleby (Mazza) has signed off and sold the business to long-time employee Tania.

It’s an exciting time for Along Came Henry. With the same delicious menu and great coffee Tania hopes to maintain and build on the great business Mazza created as a welcoming and friendly hub for locals and tourists - a place to sit back, relax and catch up!

The delicious menu is now available for longer as the café is open from 8.30am til 3.30pm Monday to Friday and on Sunday from 9.30am til 2.30pm.

Grab your coffee fix earlier and/or later and to welcome the new month as owner of the café there will be an Along Came Henry special for the month of October;  a toasted sandwich and regular barista coffee for only $9.50.

Congratulations Tania on the new business opportunity and well done to Mazza for four great years as owner/operator of Along Came Henry Café.  A great partnership the CRC is delighted to hear the community hub will continue to be filled with Bluebird information, local services/information and the smell of freshly ground coffee each morning!

Landcare Update

Landcare extends an invitation to locals and travelling visitors to venture out along Donald Campbell Drive to Lake Dumbleyung and partake in a spot of bird watching or just enjoy the peace and tranquility that springtime brings to this part of the country, especially on a calm and balmy afternoon. The truly magnificent sight of the sun setting over the Lake…….a photographer’s exclusive scoop of the natural reflections of the Lake and, of course, the view is just as good from Pussycat Hill.

If your interest is bird watching of the feather kind some Swans can still be seen, which means they may have bred within the Lake environs. Heaps of water birds and a pair of Black Shouldered Kites have taken up residence in the trees behind the Yacht Club shed.

Other activities to enjoy are swimming, paddle boarding, canoeing, yachting, boating, jet ski-ing, photography or just enjoy a picnic with friends by the Lake.

The water has lost its freshness from when it first filled after the flood event in early 2017 and now the salinity has increased to above sea water levels so please remember to take adequate drinking water with you on your journey to the Lake.
