More than 30 kids across the Shire of Dumbleyung have been getting their arts and crafts on this school holidays.

A series of five workshops are being held in the newly designated Dumbleyung Art Space on the main street in Dumbleyung.

Children aged from 5 months to 15 years are painting the walls, decorating pine cone santas and cupcakes.

Local Sjan Hitchcock-Jose initiative to paint the artspace walls was given the go ahead by the Shire and has been kindly supported with donations by the Dumbleyung Roadhouse, General Store and Shire.

Sjan's merry helpers Tanya Kirk and Lana Jose helped expand the initiative to include the other crafty sessions which have been a hit with the kids and their parents alike.

Thanks to S.Hitchcock-Jose, M.Smith and C.Mott for sharing your photos with us for this story.

38... Christmas Cake! Bingo fun at the CRC

The countdown is on with only 3 days till Christmas but in between all the present shopping and food preparing eighteen ladies and gentlemen joined us at the Dumbleyung CRC for a christmas themed, fun filled lunch with bingo!

Five games of bingo we're played and with almost every number called out during each game the winning spot was always a nail bitter. Like most bingo games we used the 'bingo lingo' when numbers were drawn including legs eleven (11), dirty thirty (30), christmas cake (38) and droopy drawers (44).

Our friends at along came Henry catered the event with gourmet lunch platters filling everyone up. That was until the pavlova and sweets came out and by Christmas miracle everyone found more room to enjoy the home made sweets and cheese platters.

Thank you to along came Henry for supporting this CRC event and an even greater thank you to all the lovely ladies and gentlemen that joined us for the event.

Do you love bingo? Don't worry the CRC will host another bingo event in the new year. In the meantime share your bingo lingo below and we'll add it to the CRC bingo dictionary in 2016.

Bowled out in Williams

On Saturday 19 December the cricketers squeezed themselves on to the bus and took the unfamiliar trip, unfamiliar with cricket bags at least, to Williams to play their first away game to the new to the competition side. After an easy win in the first round of the competition against a weak Williams team, there were high hopes that heading into to the Christmas break third place could be consolidated against an improving team.

The day started well when the toss was won and captain Kalan Joyce chose to bat on a warm but windy day. Although the runs flowed with the aggressive Dame Leo and Scott Jefferis the wickets did too. The promoted Ryan Taylor made his way to the middle under a under pressure but did a great job to stop the flow of wickets and provide some entertainment with the shot of the day. When he fell big Jon Ward strode to the crease and as he has done so often at the ground lined up the goals and bombed away. Amidst the fall of wickets he played a swashbuckling innings to top score with 37, the main contributor in the side’s small total of 122.

Although the total was not what was desired the team remained hopeful with the dangerous David Head and sly Nathan Ditchburn opening the bowling. While Kukerin-Dumbleyung started quickly, Williams started slow however they managed to keep wickets in hand. After a good opening spell, Pete Downey started his spell and fired things up by claiming a couple of wickets. At drinks the game was evenly poised due to some good bowling. Williams however recovered and continued to crawl to the target. The return of David Head saw a few quick wickets and the pressure mount. It was not to be though with Williams passing the score eight wickets down in the 39th over in what was described as one of the most boring games to watch. David Head and Pete Downey were the pick of the bowlers with three wickets each.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Shire of Dumbleyung!

Santa Claus has come to town and the Shire of Dumbleyung is filled with holiday cheer! It's been a busy festive season with three community events across the Shire in the past fortnight. Dumbleyung hosted a community tree on December 12th, Kukerin held their annual street party on December 18 and Dongolocking held their annual Christmas tree on Sunday December 20.

The man of the month, Santa Claus made an appearance at each community event with gifts for all as we have an abundance of very good boys and girls in our community!  And even with his busy
schedule so close to Christmas, Dongolocking we’re lucky to have a tractor for Santa to arrive in, while his reindeer's rest before their grand voyage on Christmas Eve.

There was great attendance at each event with the drinks flowing, the BBQ aroma’s wafting through the air, a magnificent spread of salads and just a lovely community atmosphere. It’s hard to believe that 2016 is almost upon us but generally across the Shire it’s been a great year and seeing everyone get together to celebrate the holidays with family and friends is lovely way to cap it off.

Such events wouldn't be so successful if it weren't for the local businesses so a very big thank you to all those who contributed and also to the many community members across the three events for bringing everyone together to celebrate the holiday season!

Stay safe, be merry and enjoy the holidays!

Thank you to B.Borrett, J.Shotter and C.Mott for sharing your photos.

The Kojonup Veterinary Hospital has been established for a number of years and we have been fortunate enough to service clients both in the immediate district and surrounding areas. To help our existing clients more easily access Veterinary care and to meet some new faces, our team opened a branch practice in Katanning just over 6 months ago.

Since opening we have seen a number of familiar faces and a met quite a few new ones! We are excited to provide the same service as offered in Kojonup to meet the needs of both large and small animals with the same level of commitment and care. Being located in the centre of Katanning provides a much closer access to Veterinary services.

We are equipped to offer a full on farm service for domestic livestock. We are also able to see horses on property for routine and emergency procedures.

We have a friendly local nursing team that is based in Katanning and are more than happy to assist with any queries.  We perform routine surgeries and dental work for companion animals. Animals requiring hospitalisation, major surgery or x-rays are transferred to our fully equipped hospital in Kojonup. We provide a hospital transfer service or clients are welcome to take animals to Kojonup if they wish.

We are open from Tuesday through to Friday from 8.30 am until 4.30pm. Our Kojonup practice is open on all weekdays and from 9-12 on Saturday mornings.

The team at Katanning Veterinary Clinic would like to thank all our lovely clients both new and existing, for making us feel so welcome and for supporting our new clinic in Katanning.
We would also like to let everyone know that our usual after-hours emergency service will not be available from midday on Christmas Eve, until 8.30am Monday 4th January 2016.

If you have a Veterinary Emergency please call 98 311 666 and you will be able to get details of the closest emergency service.

We wish everyone the best for the festive season and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. We look forward to an exciting year in 2016 and can’t wait to watch our practice continue to grow!
