This is the message of the upcoming ‘Can You See My Mind?’ art exhibition which officially opens in Wagin on Saturday 8th October. Local artist and author Megan Henry will feature in the exhibit and show an exquisite and moving mixed media piece. Professor Lyn Beazley, Neuroscientist and WA Australian of the Year 2015 will be present at the opening and will tour with the main exhibition which continues across the Wheatbelt in the following months.
Artwork for this exhibition has been created from mental health questionnaires completed by volunteers who are currently living with, or have lived through a mental health condition. The exhibition is a shared collaboration with a positive focus on promoting mental health wellness in our communities and sharing the silence of the mind to bring understanding and compassion.
A youth art competition is also part of the event with the closing date being this Friday 9th September. It is open to youth aged 12 – 18 years with three different age groupings. Entry is free and open to any art discipline/medium with Mental Health Awareness – ‘Can You See My Mind?’ as the theme.
Junior art can be dropped at the Wagin CRC by Friday 9th September. The winning student art will tour with the main exhibition after a presentation by Professor Lyn Beazley.
