"So excited that our team won the regional final of the Holden scramble at Mandurah country club the afternoon. Off to Queensland in a month to play in the Australian final. Wicked team of Karen Ward, Tamara Bartram, Cheryl Snell, and our Pro Tristan McCallum. Matt McVey was our scorer and was from Melville Glades." contribution by Margie Ward
After winning the Katanning Holden Scramble last month, the day of reckoning drew closer as the Lakeview Lassies congregated on Monday, 24 October at Chris Ryan and Ashley Kemble's mansion in Mandurah. There was Chinese takeaway, cake, beverages and present opening in the lead up to the big event with a few interesting photos taken.  The special items given to the team cannot be disclosed or viewed, only to a select few.

Tuesday dawned with the girls pumped and Ashley, predicting that we would be near the bottom end, so of course bets were on.  The rain decided to make an entrance when we arrived but cleared by the time we were ready to hit off.   Karen scored the gold (winners) buggy for her and our marker, Matt McVey from Melville Glades who also became her driver.  We had hoped to get Chris as our Marker but Matt excelled at the job - thank you.

We were lucky and extremely excited from the start as we hit off No 1 first, after seeing our pro, Tristan McCallum who was really young, good looking, had a great smile, and with all of our comments when we 1st spied him on the tee box, we knew he had a good sense of humour.   As the day progressed we realised that he was cool under pressure, knew how to handle his team, ignored all the cheers and chest pumping, and was pleased when he didn't have to putt  - it actually meant that we were playing okay golf.

We were confident that when we messed up, Tristan would just land on the green with the 2nd shot , which he did, just like you watch on Foxtel Golf in the big tournaments, he made golf look so easy.  I think Tristan was a rather impressed, maybe pleased,  with some of our hits as we came in with a score of 63 off the stick and had 8 birdies, with a handicap of 11.4, 51.4 - we were in with a chance and as they say the rest is history.  Thank you to Tristan and keep those girls under control over there.
In the speeches Holden Manager, Michael did mention that he thought it was one of the lowest scores in a Holden Scramble for the year, so well done team and good luck in Queensland in November at Twin Waters.  You are all awesome, great fun, easy to play with, can laugh at our bad shots and of course cheer with our brilliant ones.

A big thank you to Adrian Edwards, Graham Broad of Katanning Holden, and to Holden for the great sponsorship and the opportunity to represent Western Australia in Queensland.  Good luck to our Reserve Davina Gossage who has kindly agreed to go instead of the Captain.  It was heard on the grapevine that Eric could not get a word in at all when he arrived home on Tuesday night!
