An introduction by Claudia, our local Landcare Officer, on the benefits of trees in our environment and the importance trees play in our daily lives. Teachers and Parents organised the students into groups and the job of planting and placing tree guards on each seedling was completed in no time at all.
A special thank you is extended to Keith Parnell from Parnell Tree Nursery in Tincurrin, who kindly donated a tray of mixed seedlings and Greg Ball from Wagin who donated the tree guards.
This event was made possible with the support of the teachers, staff and willing volunteers who initiated the tree planting. Additional thanks to the school P&C for purchasing most of the trees, Drew Bartram for supplying the machinery and ripping the tree lines, and parents who assisted with the planting.
To complement National Tree Day, and encourage awareness of this event, a Colouring Competition was held for all students with many colourful and expertly finished entries being judged. Prizes were awarded to the winning students following tree planting. All entries are publically displayed in the front window of the Landcare Office in Absolon Street, Dumbleyung.
Winners of the Colouring Competition were
Senior Class: Evelyn Bennett, Highly commended: M Kafi, L Hansen, O Bairstow
Year1 /2: Dayna Bennett, Highly commended M Coad, E Bairstow, S Bennett
K/PP: Flynn Bartram, Highly commended: T Hitchcock-Jose, J Smith, A Smith
