After breakfast, the official proceedings began as Shire President, Gordon Davidson, thanked everyone for attending and further awarded the Shire of Dumbleyung Citizen of the Year awards to two very deserving winners.
Congratulations to Owen Dare who was awarded Dumbleyung Citizen of the Year. Owen’s very long list of contributions meant Shire President, Gordon Davidson, couldn’t finish in the time frame given. Owen has contributed over 30 years to Dumbleyung Landcare and has been involved in a variety of local initiatives and clubs. Surprised and honoured to receive the award Owen thanked his wife Liz for all her support and shared a warm ‘happy wedding anniversary’ to conclude his speech.
Further, congratulations to Bob Bray who was awarded the Shire of Dumbleyung Senior Citizen Award. Gordon Davidson thanked Bob for always willing to lend a helping hand and being an amazing team player, especially in local initiatives across this Shire (more recently, Landcare Bridal Creeper Blitz and naming of unmarked graves at Nippering Cemetery). Bob took the floor and thanked a number of people including anonymous donators and most importantly, his wife, Millie.
A number of new faces were in the crowd at the Australia Day Breakfast, with a warm welcome from Shire President Gordon Davidson we hope you enjoy living in the Shire!
