Seniors Week was celebrated across the state last week and was acknowledged locally with Dumbleyung Primary School holding a Seniors’ afternoon on Thursday where seniors and family of students were enthralled by science experiments and activities. Kukerin Primary School held their successful Seniors’ function the week prior with a snakebite presentation and family creative craft activity, and culminating in the mid-term assembly.
Recently the Community Resource Centre (CRC) ran an information session with guest speakers from Access Care Network Australia. Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Coordinator Megan Jones discussed respite care and the very important needs of the carer as well. Fellow speaker and Team Leader of the Assessment Agency, Virginia Abson, spoke about the assessment process and the many supports available.
More information and resources are available from the CRC with flyers and brochures added to the information stands.
Not only have our local seniors been instrumental in organising the CATS car (that has already received its first few bookings), they also run the successful Men's Shed, Community Garden, are involved in and running, numerous businesses and sporting clubs with the Dumbleyung Ladies Bowls Club recently organising the well-attended Melbourne Cup luncheon. Local seniors have also been recently spotted at Seniors’ yoga and water aerobics.
Congratulations and thank you to our amazing seniors who volunteer so much of their time and share their wealth of knowledge and experience. You are acknowledged and greatly appreciated!
