SSAA State Steel Challenge Titles held 18 March 2017

The Kukerin Practical Pistol Club (KPPC) once again successfully hosted the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) Annual State Steel Challenge Titles. This events popularity continues to amaze us with over 80 odd competitors, the youngest being 10, shooting his first state competition, and the oldest around 70. The event was shot in great spirit, great weather and great friendship from both new and old shooters. The event attracts men, ladies, seniors and juniors from all over the state and this year we even had one shooter fly in from Brisbane Thursday night, shoot the titles and fly back again Monday. That is keen. We had shooters camped on the range, staying in the Kukerin Hotel, at Mary’s Cottages and overflowing in a local house in town.

The Steel Challenge consists of eight stages and can be shot with open, production, revolver & rim-fire guns. There are medals for all divisions

The SSAA WA State President Ron Bryant and SSAA WA State Delegate Ian Pittick shot the competition and gave much praise to the Kukerin Club who are small in membership but manage to attract big numbers of shooters and families and give fabulous hospitality; well known for the great food, soup, burgers and pin-wheels. KPPC is a small but strong club with 8 ranges, modern facilities and friendly members. It is one of the best set up shooting clubs in the state and hosts two State events each year. Our club was the first in this state to host the National Steel Challenge last year and the feedback was so positive that we feel confident we will be doing it again in the not so distant future.

We had a record broken this year by Caleb Harris being the first shooter in WA to shoot the event in under the 100 seconds barrier. This is a fantastic effort.
On another note we say farewell to our "kitchen girls", Sue and Dianne, who are stepping down after eight years of feeding the hungry shooters. You will be missed.

The catch cry at the conclusion of the shoot from our visiting shooters was ‘We will be back, see you in September.’ The 2017 Annual Kukerin Steel Challenge will be held on the weekend of 9th & 10th of September and we invite all members of the public to come out and check out how we enjoy our chosen sport.
PS.Ear and eye protection must be worn on all ranges. Check into the office on arrival.
