If in your travels along the Shire roads you happen to spot marking tape tied around tree trunks on the edge of the road and you wonder why?……..take a closer look and you will find a patch of bridal creeper growing close by.
This marking tape is intended for the Wagin Contractor when he carries out spraying of the Shire roadsides. If infestation areas are marked we can ensure these sites will receive the spray treatment by the Contractor.
If you spot patches of this weed growing or are aware of its location along the road you travel please report it to the Landcare Office before mid-July.
If we record where it is growing it will be targeted by the Contractor this year.
Please email the road name, location along the road and any identifiable land marks to email@example.com before end-June. Bush spraying done by Volunteers in 2016………..Great Success!
To all those wonderful Volunteers that turned up to spray bridal creeper in the bush areas around the Town sites of Dumbleyung and Kukerin last year, please congratulate yourselves on achieving excellent outcomes in reducing the mass of bridal creeper growth to a manageable size. Originally we were informed that eradicating bridal creeper would extend over several years; however your efforts were so good in achieving the end result and then confirmation from good authority that plants were knocked over in the first year it will make eradication of the weed a lot easier from now on.
A mop up spray and annual inspections over the next few years will determine bridal creeper is kept in check and can eventually be a weed of no significance!
A great big shout out and thank you is extended to Bob Bray for sourcing and coordinating the Volunteers and being very active towards achieving great results last year. Due to Bob’s passion to target this weed until it grows no more has seen him again mopping up areas by hand spraying all sites old and new along the outer roads of the Town and in bush areas previously sprayed within the Town.
