On Wednesday the 18th of September the PP-6 students enjoyed a morning with special guest, Ms Claudia Hadlow, learning about the Dumbleyung Shire’s water harvesting project. Before commencing our excursion, Ms Hadlow showed the children a large map of the Dumbleyung town site, explaining how the Shire is harvesting surface water through a series of drainage systems which make their way to a sump, located behind Wishbone Transport. Staff and students then took a walk down to the sump so that the children could see first-hand how the drainage system works and where the water is collected and pumped out into storage dams. Water collected in the sump is used to irrigate sites such as the town oval, tennis courts, community garden and Bluebird precinct. It’s a fabulous initiative and we thank Ms Hadlow for taking the time to educate us about how Dumbleyung is working towards a sustainable future by using water wisely!
Following the excursion the students wrote thankyou letters and we are happy to share them with you!
