Nominations are called for the Local Government Elections, to be held on Saturday 19th October 2019 to fill the vacancies listed below for the Shire of Dumbleyung.

WHO CAN NOMINATE?
Any person who is an Australian Citizen over the age of 18 years who is an elector of the district and is not disqualified under the Local Government Act 1995 may nominate for council. It is not a requirement that a candidate lives or owns property in the ward for which they nominate.
WHEN TO NOMINATE
Nominations for all vacancies open on Thursday 5TH September 2019 and must be lodged by 4.00pm, Thursday 12th September 2019. Nominations must be lodged with the Returning Officer at any time during the above period at the office of the Shire of Dumbleyung.

NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates are required to lodge with the Returning Officer. Nominations must be on a prescribed form that is signed and witnessed. This form is available at the Shire of Dumbleyung Administration Office. An $80 deposit is required as well as a single A4 page profile containing not more than 150 words of biographical information about the proposed candidate and statements of the candidate’s policies or beliefs. An optional recent passport sized photograph can also be included. The documents may be hand delivered, posted, faxed or any other electronic means (so long as it is capable of being printed in its entirety, including signature) to the Returning Officer and must be received by the close of nominations.

Compulsory Local Government Candidate Induction
This year new laws have been introduced which make it compulsory for all candidates who would like to become a Councillor and are nominating or re-nominating in a local government election to complete the Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries online induction.
To be able to nominate in a Western Australian local government election, YOU MUST complete this induction. The induction should take no longer than an hour to complete. Please make sure you leave enough time to complete the induction so you can lodge your nomination form before nominations close. SHIRE OF DUMBLEYUNG LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS
On Saturday 19th October 2019 local governments throughout Western Australia will be participating in elections that are held every two years either via a postal voting or ‘in person’ voting system and there are some important dates for community members to be aware of.
ENROLEMENT TO VOTE
If you are currently registered on the State Electoral roll as a resident in the Shire of Dumbleyung, then you are not required to do anything. If you have recently moved to the Shire from another area and you have not changed your address or have recently become an Australian Citizen then you will need to complete a change of enrolment address or application to be enrolled, which can be done online at the WA Electoral Commission website.
The closing date for enrolment changes or new enrolments is Friday 30th August 2019 at 5.00pm otherwise you will not be entitled to vote at the 2019 local government elections.

Annual Vacant Block Maintenance
Some residents get the shire to mow their vacant resident blocks before the 1st November. In fees and charges,there is a fee where the shire will keep your vacant residential block tidy for the entire year for $253, around the same it would cost for a one off tidy. If you would like to take up this offer, in time for this year’s fire season, please get in touch with the shire before 30th September.

RESTRICTED BURNING PERIOD
19th September to 31st October
1st February to 31st March
Restricted Burning Period – It is unlawful to set fire to the bush during this time except in accordance with a permit obtained. The Restricted Burning Period can be varied i.e. shortened, extended, suspended, reimposed by the Shire 14 days at a time if seasonal conditions require.
PROHIBITED BURNING PERIOD
1st November to 31st January
Burning is also prohibited on Good Friday and Easter Sunday
Prohibited Burning Period – means that the time of the year during when it is declared by the Minister to be unlawful to set fire to the bush. Protective burning and burning to harvest clover can be carried out during this time only in accordance with a permit obtained.
