THE MONTHLY SHIRE OF DUMBLEYUNG NEWSLETTER 'LAKE EXPRESS' IS OUT NOW!
Want to receive it by post or email? Call us now 9863 4012.
Read all about our latest happenings in the Lake Express online here https://mailchi.mp/ce670c144d27/shire-newsletter-lake-express-volume-twenty-three?e=8ea7e70abe

Upcoming Changes to Lake Dumbleyung Gazetted Ski Area
DPAW have given approval for the ski area to be extended to the north of the current ski area. The northern area approved will go roughly from the North-East and North-West points of the current ski area to the Yacht Club. There will also be an extended ski area to the south of the current ski area which is UCL and not under the control of DPAW.  These areas still need to be gazetted by the Department of Transport before they can be used as ski areas. Ross Leo from Combined Pest Control has also visited to spray the Yacht Club and Ski Club. He is doing this as a donation to the community which is much appreciated. Thank you Ross. Read more

Fines Enforcement Registry
The shire has now signed up to the Fines Enforcement Registry in order to provide a larger deterrent to the fines that we currently issue. This means that if you fail to pay a fine that has been issued by the shire, you may end up having your driver’s licence suspended until the fine is paid.

Responsible Dog Ownership
During February, a ranger representing the shire will be visiting homes in Dumbleyung and Kukerin to talk to owners about responsible dog ownership. The purpose of this visit is to inform you of your rights and obligations so that you know the right thing to do.

CALL FOR HELP - Please submit photos and locality history to our new interactive Dumbleyung Shire History Webpage to assist us with completing our 'Historical Locality Sign Project'.
Thank you to those who have assisted so far on the Historical Locality Sign project. As we are nearing the half way point,  we have started thinking about the localities beyond the Fence that aren't featured in the Dumbleyung Pictorial book, which has been an important resource for the photo aspect of the project. Moving forward we realised we need to collect more pictures and information so we have established an interactive history forum on our Shire of Dumbleyung webpage which enables anyone to add information and photos to our website by becoming a member by simply entering your email address and creating a password. Submissions to this site will greatly assist when we start researching photos of families, sport and school information for the new locality signs.

Members can add information, stories and photos under your desired locality enabling people to search by text to read what you have written online and as more people enter information and photos, our online history will grow! (For example if you are looking for information that other people may have entered you could search for the surname.)

If you are interested in your family history and photos being recorded on our website, simply visit https://www.dumbleyung.wa.gov.au/history, click the sign up button, enter your email address and create your password; you will be able to add, edit and format your own articles, along with commenting and adding to other people's articles. HINT: Before entering your family history, search for the surname first as someone may have already entered it and you can just comment below and add new information and photos to it.

As a bit of a recap on the Historical Locality Sign project, we are working with the concept of the photos being of settling families, sporting groups and some interesting farm practices and structures. We are also documenting all families past and present in the ‘Families’ list. The majority of the sign content has been compiled from previous history publications. The aim of this project is to document our history in a way that is also interesting to our future generations and tourists as part of a drive trail.

You are welcome to share this information with anyone who may be interested in adding to our new website as every addition helps record and preserve our historyhttps://www.dumbleyung.wa.gov.au/history

If you have further questions, please contact Nicole Taylor, Community Development Officer via email ntaylor@dumbleyung.wa.gov.au or phone (08) 9863 4012.

Fundraising Opportunity – Catering for Council Meetings
Community/Sporting Groups or Individuals are invited to put their names forward for catering for one or more of the 2018 Council Meetings.  (If we have a large number of responses then it may mean that some groups/individuals may only be able to cater once and dates are awarded on first in best dressed.)  Caterers are asked to provide a main course and dessert for a minimum of 10 people and are paid $32 per head for February through to November.  The December Christmas Dinner can be up to $40 per head depending on the menu and expressions of interest are sought for this closer to the date.  If you are looking for a little extra income then this is a simple and easy opportunity for local groups to raise funds.

19 April 2018
17 May 2018

Water Harvesting Project
A lot of progress has been made on the Dumbleyung Water Harvesting Project. The capture dam has been completed which now means that the majority of the rainfall that falls on the Dumbleyung townsite will be captured for use on the oval. The drains are also being cleaned and the installation of the pipe between the capture dam and main dam has commenced. The last part of the project will be the installation of the pump.
We would like to thank Steven Joy for helping to make this project possible. He has allowed the dam to be constructed on his land and has been great to deal with in allowing this to happen. This contribution not only helps users of the oval, by capturing more water to help keep it green, but helps all ratepayers by reducing the amount of scheme water required to keep the oval alive.

Australia Day Celebration and Awards
Congratulations to Rodney Frost who was awarded Citizen of the Year, and the Dumbleyung Community Garden who were awarded Community Group of the Year at the Shire of Dumbleyung Australia Day Celebration! It was a popular event with double the number of RSVP's turning up on the day. A special thank you to the Dumbleyung General Store for opening up for us to get extra food supplies!
