Kukerin Dumbleyung Football Club

Picture
The Kukerin Dumbleyung Football club played in Williams last Sunday May 1 and unfortunately D, B and A grade all came home with a loss.

D-Grade final score was 17.9-111 to 2.2-14 with goals by A.Shotter and F.Spark.

At the final siren the B-Grade score was 17.8-110 to 3.8-26 with goals by S.Jefferis, G.Ball and A.Sims.

A-Grade bounced down at 2.30pm but finished with a loss and final score of 25.13-163 to 10.5-65 with goal of the day to K.Gooding.

Over the weekend also saw the oldest and youngest players from the same family play for  club! Congratulations Kael on your first game for the Cougars and thanks Wes for you commitment to the club. (Pictured right)

Three great games of Hockey were played by the Kukerin Lake Grace Hockey Club over the weekend in Kulin. C Grade finished with a nil all draw, B Grade lost 3 nil with awards to Lisa and Trish. Unfortunately, A Grade also lost with a final score of 4-2 and goals to Fee and Michelle. Awards went to Fee and a dollar each to the rest of the team. This weekend the club will travel to play Hyden.

Dumbleyung Ducks Netball Club

Netball is back for the Dumbleyung Ducks
Our Dumbleyung Ducks are back on the netball court with a new look team and playing in a new Division.  The Ducks welcome new players Kirra Roberts, Ally Peters, and Petronella Andersson returning players Roisin Ball, Amanda Gilfellon and Pip Gooding and 2015 Premiership Players Katrina Gray (Captain for 2016), Carly Smith, Clare Watts-Smith and Elspeth Smith with Janelle Bairstow as Coach and Chloe McDougall as Assistant Coach.

The day began with a message from Coach Janelle, to say she was out for the season as a result of an injury.  A blow to begin the day with but with much encouragement from our Coach, Janelle kept the teams spirits high and nerves at bay before taking to the court.

Having moved up to Division 1/2 after a stellar year in 2015 (with the Ducks taking out the Premiership for Division 3), our first game for the year was against another new look team, Cardinals 1.   The game began very quickly and positively for the Ducks, gaining great rebounds from Goal Defence, Clare Watts-Smith and Goal Keeper Ro Ball and converting play into goals by Elspeth Smith and Katrina Gray.  However, Cardinals 1 responded to Dumbleyung’s lead, refocusing their defence using a strong zone, chasing down the loose ball and finding space across the court.

Carly Smith dominated the centre court, keeping Cardinals on their toes with Amanda Gilfellon, Kirra Roberts, Ally Peters and Pip Gooding showcasing great determination throughout the game.  The end result wasn’t in the Ducks favour this week going down 16 – 42 but with heads held high, the Ducks were happy to walk off the court injury free, able to breath and with a smile on our face.

Thank you to our supporters for coming along to cheer us on this week and particularly to Premiership player Clare Ward for scoring our game.  Our next game is played Saturday 7th May against Olympians 1 at 4pm on Court 1 at the Katanning Recreation and Leisure Centre.

Dumbleyung Mens Hockey Club

It was a great start to the season for the Dumbleyung Mens Hockey Club who played Pingelly in Pingelly. Dumbleyung defeated Pingelly 3-1 with goals by S.Angwin, J.Bride and J.Nankivell.

This week the team will play a night game in Narrogin on Saturday May 7 at  8.20pm against the Narrogin Rifts.

Also coming to Narrogin this month is the well anticipated international hockey game between Great Britain and the Kookaburras. The game a final 'warm up' before the Rio Olympics will be held over the weekend of May 21-22. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.

Well the Golf Season commenced on April 23 with an Ambrose sponsored by Elders Livestock Graham Taylor who attended on the night and presented his trophies, which was really great. Winners were H Ward, D Wall and Malcolm Robert, runner-ups Bob Hannah, Paul Ward and T Bartram. It was fantastic to see all the ladies  and children arrive for the BBQ tea and a great night was had by all except the knife-wielding magician, Davina Gossage, who after diagnosing  the problem, took a fast trip to Katanning to repair the damage from her cut arm.  When you don't want a knife to be sharp it is.  Novelties were shared by all.

Saturday 30 April saw the 1st stroke round for the season with a good field attending and vying for the Katanning Sports power trophies donated by Ashley & Louise Clarke who weren't able attend.  The  MONTHLY MUG  was WON BY  (Oh no a women) the awesome Margie Ward. There wasn't a dry eye in the club  from the men who thought they'd won but didn't even get close. This event of a  woman winning the mug is a historical event.

Congratulations to Margie who also, for the first time broke 100, shooting a 95 off the stick with a 65 Nett.  Runner-up was Ronnie Ball 74 Nett  and Gross T Bartram.  The men's winner with a great score was Dave Wall 70 Nett/87 off the stick with a count back for runner up with Stephen Roberts taking the honours with a 71 Nett.  Marc Ball won the gross.  Novelties were won by D Wall x 2, J Dare, S Roberts, P Ward, G Bateup.  The putting comp was won by fireman, Garry Bateup with 25putts.
Next week will be a Stableford sponsored by Nexus, Steve Westbrook.  Names in by 12.00pm.  Subs are due 21 May.
