Dumbleyung Ducks Netball Club
Our Dumbleyung Ducks are back on the netball court with a new look team and playing in a new Division. The Ducks welcome new players Kirra Roberts, Ally Peters, and Petronella Andersson returning players Roisin Ball, Amanda Gilfellon and Pip Gooding and 2015 Premiership Players Katrina Gray (Captain for 2016), Carly Smith, Clare Watts-Smith and Elspeth Smith with Janelle Bairstow as Coach and Chloe McDougall as Assistant Coach.
The day began with a message from Coach Janelle, to say she was out for the season as a result of an injury. A blow to begin the day with but with much encouragement from our Coach, Janelle kept the teams spirits high and nerves at bay before taking to the court.
Having moved up to Division 1/2 after a stellar year in 2015 (with the Ducks taking out the Premiership for Division 3), our first game for the year was against another new look team, Cardinals 1. The game began very quickly and positively for the Ducks, gaining great rebounds from Goal Defence, Clare Watts-Smith and Goal Keeper Ro Ball and converting play into goals by Elspeth Smith and Katrina Gray. However, Cardinals 1 responded to Dumbleyung’s lead, refocusing their defence using a strong zone, chasing down the loose ball and finding space across the court.
Carly Smith dominated the centre court, keeping Cardinals on their toes with Amanda Gilfellon, Kirra Roberts, Ally Peters and Pip Gooding showcasing great determination throughout the game. The end result wasn’t in the Ducks favour this week going down 16 – 42 but with heads held high, the Ducks were happy to walk off the court injury free, able to breath and with a smile on our face.
Thank you to our supporters for coming along to cheer us on this week and particularly to Premiership player Clare Ward for scoring our game. Our next game is played Saturday 7th May against Olympians 1 at 4pm on Court 1 at the Katanning Recreation and Leisure Centre.
Dumbleyung Mens Hockey Club
This week the team will play a night game in Narrogin on Saturday May 7 at 8.20pm against the Narrogin Rifts.
