Allstars (Dumbleyung Dart Club) competed against Wagin team Gangsters at the Wagin Club on Wednesday 11 July. We were robbed. Being defeated 10/1 did not show how close each game was. Gangsters were deadly on their pegging and we could not respond. John Lee lead our averages with a magnificent 55.76, Clayton with a great 46.46, Don 44.42, Graham 41.59 (and the lonely peg) Block 41.48, BJ (Big John) 38.46.

On Saturday the weather couldn't quite decide what to hand out to the players. With sunshine, wind, rain, dry fairways, wet fairways, sticky, fast, slow greens golfers were challenged all day. Just when they thought they had conquered the course the weather decided to change that.    A big thank you to our sponsor, Nexus - Steve Westbrook yet again coming to play the course and present his awesome trophies.  It is always a pleasure to have you Steve and your words of wisdom, which are “You must be able to have a laugh when playing golf. “

The classic today was young father to be Daniel McDougall playing up No 9, hit a beautiful shot which landed on the other side of No 12 in a Banksia tree. The birds are still wondering what the white egg sort of thing is doing up there as no-one could get it down.  Not stopping with that he decided to play tag and hit himself with his ball, another 2 stroke penalty. Daniel redeemed his dignity when he was the only player in his group, all landed on No 17 for birdie putts with a spectacular putt that rolled back into the hole after going past.  He also birdied No 2 and won the Birdie hole.  Marc Ball, it was heard on the grapevine, only hit 2 fairways but his reasons are very leggy!!

Winner of the men's competition was new golfer Glenn Ball, who after only just missing out last week as winner of the putting comp blitzed the field with 42 points.  Not too sure if he hasn't been wandering over from his place thru the back paddocks to the golf course during the week but if so it has certainly paid off.  If not, could be the awesome company he played with, though he did say that his drives had improved but putting wasn't as good this week - welcome to the ever changing golf highs and lows.  Runner up was Dave Wall on a countback from Garry Bateup with 35 points and the Gross was Eric Gossage.

Winner of the women's competition was Tamara Bartram with 33 points and mention must be made of the 2 Birdies, first for the year, actually for a lot of years I think, and two novelties.  Runner up was Sharlene Powell with 32 points - still finding the course challenging though she might have been a bit distracted with the knowledge that she would be going home to her granddaughter and to admire the new kitchen.  Liz Dare won the Gross deciding that after 3 wins in a row she would like to up her challenge with her golf and the Gross was the ultimate win.    Novelties were also won by Lee Smith and Garry Bateup.

Good holidaying to all who are taking off for warmer weather. Next week will be a Stroke- 5th Qualifying round, MM and BBQ with sponsors Wishbone Transport-Ray Justins.
