Kukerin Dumbleyung Football Club

The Semi-final matches of the Upper Great Southern Football league are split over two weekends which meant the Cougars had a bye on Sunday August 27 - after winning against Wagin in the first Semi-final on Sunday August 20. This weekend the Cougars will have the home ground advantage playing at Nenke Park Kukerin on Sunday September 3 – Go Cougars!

One club whose season finished with a win is Dumbleyung ‘Allstars’ Darts Club. Playing in Darkan on August 26 the team won B Grade final against Wagin Redbacks, which made it the first defeat this season. A very close game of 5 all, the final game saw Allstars win 6-5. The Redbacks were gracious in their defeat, and a great crowd attended the event. Following the game the team enjoyed an end of season dinner and windup. Well done Dumbleyung Allstars!

Dumbleyung Men's Hockey Club

The Dumbleyung Men’s Hockey Club had a fixtured bye last weekend, and will play in the Semi-final this weekend September 2 against Allblacks in Narrogin at 8.20pm.  The date and time of this game may change, please see the Dumbleyung Men’s Hockey Facebook Page for the most up to date information. We wish the club all the best as they train hard for their Grand final journey!

Lake Grace Kukerin Hockey Club

Lake Grace Kukerin Hockey Cub who were sitting top of the ladder, went into the Preliminary final on Saturday August 26 against Kalgarin/Hyden - unfortunately losing 3-1. Well done to all involved – players, coaches, executive committee, volunteers and all supporters who assisted the club this season.

Our Ducks played Katanning team, Allstars 2 in the Katanning Netball Association’s First Semi-Final, in what was a nail biting game from start to finish.

Winning the first centre pass, our Ducks didn’t quite get the start they were hoping for with Allstars 2 taking the charge.  Our Ducks resettled and soon found their wings beginning a run of goals that were integral to the rest of the game.

The game had it all, spectacular intercepts, fierce contested play and a few cautions from the umpires, both teams threw their hearts on the line knowing this could be their last game of the season.  Dumbleyung’s lead from the first quarter was jeopardised in the final quarter.  Allstars 2 came within a goal from the five goal lead Dumbleyung had established leaving injured team mate (and timekeeper for the game) Lou Dare in a silent panic!

Not to despair our Ducks still had enough left in their tanks to get another run of goals ending the game Dumbleyung (51) to Allstars 2 (46).  Best players included Carly Smith, Chloe McDougall and Hanna Chiswell.  Well done Ducks!  A fabulous game and a great way to start the finals campaign!

Our Ducks play hometown rivals Broomehill in the Preliminary Final this Saturday 2nd September at 1.30pm, Court 4.  So come along and support our Ducks in what will be another hotly contested game.  Broomehill will be firing after their loss to our Ducks less then 3 weeks ago.  Best of luck to our Ducks!

Well, it was D-Day on Saturday for some, with the ladies playing until the 20th hole to decide a winner.  Davina  Gossage was 4 down until the last few holes, then decided to up the antics came back to be all square on the 18th.  Ladies then halved 1, but the bush got the better of Davina and Liz Dare with her pink stick and good form winning the 20th.   Liz played an outstanding round and showed off her beauty, grace and style as she came in after 20 holes with her best score for many, many years. Liz nearly managed her second career hole in one with a magnificent shot on No5.  Partner Davina did not match this style especially on the 20th hole as she managed to go backwards a number of times, even landing in the adjacent GUR twice.  The waiting men were well entertained by this exhibit, even though they missed counting a few of the shots.  Fortunately Liz wasn't hit or injured in this display and managed to come out an elated winner. A magnificent game girls and good luck to you Liz in the finals.  Liz has always wanted to play in a final and has now attained her wish.  Keep up the good form Liz and you will be a winner.

The men's was won by Dave Wall 8/6 defeating Lee Smith and  with Stephen Roberts and Jamie Dare deciding not to be outdone by the ladies, continued on to the 21st hole, with Stephen winning. The two winners then had to back up on Sunday with an early start, 8.00am for Eric Gossage and Dave Wall and after conceding to be photographed started their journey, both men were in good form. Eric was 2 up going into No13, with both men hitting straight down the middle and Eric winning this hole with a birdie.  This put him 3 up, but Dave decided that enough was enough and won the next 2 holes.  Eric eventually won on No 17 - a match worthy of screening on Foxtel.   Paul Ward and Stephen Roberts decided to play at 8.30 and missed the photo, but due to the diligent photographer, were captured on No8 with Paul 2 up.   Stephen was spot on with his chipping, edging back into contention, and eventually winning 2up.

Winner of the odd bods was yes, you guessed it, Bob Hannah himself, a magnificent 43 points.  A picture to watch Bob play, straight down the middle, easy relaxed swing, putting magician you name it Bob has it, well done Bob.  And boy oh boy can Ricky Mott hit a ball, out of sight, over the hill and far away.  No wonder men get so many birdies or lose so many balls.

It was great to see the 9 hole comp continuing with Matt Gilfellon winning with an awesome 24points, his 1 day of the year golf,  and he carries his bag - very impressive!

Next week's sponsor is KPR Bookkeeping, Kevin & Sharlene Powell.  Don't forget to get yourself a partner for the Men's and Ladies day on Friday 8 September.  The final of the Championships will be Saturday 9 September commencing at 8.25am for Eric Gossage v Stephen Roberts, and at 8.30am for Tamara Bartram v Elizabeth Dare.
