New Dumbleyung Netball Court

Picture
The hard fundraising efforts of the Dumbleyung Netball Club over the last 20 years have seen them reach their goal of a brand new netball court! With the support of Stubbs Park and the Shire along with a successful application to the Bain Estate, a new Techlay surface was laid over the existing court ready for the start of the netball season. With a new grippy surface and two new netball posts installed the Dumbleyung Netball Club is raring to go this year.

We are very excited to enter two teams in the Katanning Netball Association this year and with such good numbers it makes our Wednesday night trainings a mid-week social event!

A huge thank you to the netballers past and present for their fundraising efforts, a massive thanks to the Shire and to Nicole, Calvin and the works team for helping us achieve our goal and thanks again for the wonderful opportunities the Bain Estate affords us.

Please feel free to come along and check out our new court or come for a run at training on Wednesday evenings between 6pm and 7.30pm and join us for a drink at the GODI afterwards.

Our netball season kicks off this Saturday! GO DUCKS!

Dumbleyung Lakeview Golf Club

Well it is that time -the changing of the season- out with the bowls, swimming, cricket and tennis and in with the golf, footy and hockey.

Saturday, 27 April 2019 saw the official Opening Day of the golf season with an awesome crowd vying for good partners in the Ambrose event sponsored once again by Elders - Graham Taylor (Spock) who had already made a commitment to a bowls comp.  With new players trying out their new found golfing abilities, regular members trying desperately to hit the elusive shot of the day, and a partly incapacitated member really just out for a nice walk in the hot sun.  Special mention to our great cook and entertainer of the children, Tanya.  The course was running, fast but looking in great shape, with the greens in superb condition.  Thank you to all for the great job done.

Eventual winners of the day were new comer Ylana Sheppard- the coaching really paid off, Howie Ward and Lee Smith with an incredible score of 54 1/2 with runners-up on 56 - Margie Ward, Jon Ward and Stephen Roberts.  The illustrious NAGA award with 63 1/6 went to Captain Jamie Dare, Ronnie Ball and Daniel McDougall.  Novelties were won by Jon Ward, Howie Ward, Ylana Bairstow and Dongolocking Plumbing.

Mention also of the awesome golf played by President, Eric Gossage after opening the season with the 1st shot and a good one at that, and his son Stuart who though suffering a mild case of self-induced sickness, with his new sticks, and a newcomer to the sport, played some beautiful shots and putted to perfection, nearly.  They did have the bad luck to draw the Ladies Captain who really only had 1 good putt.  The opposition playing the game of their lives with Dave Wall, the draw king of golf, holding on fast with his two women Liz & Davina.  Davina taking real pleasure in out driving both her husband and son at times.

The scribe didn't really get much on the other teams but watch out next week, hopefully the spy will be in better condition.   Next week is a Stableford sponsored by Katanning Sportspower - Ashley & Louise Clarke.

D Grade Results
On Sunday the KDFC D grade kicked their season off in Katanning. After a couple of pre-season training runs the boy’s (and a few girls) were keen to get out on the field. With a good side thanks to a few older boys home from high school, the side found the going a little tough against an older and taller Katanning side. At the half time break some players were exchanged from both sides and the contest evened out a bit over the last two quarters.

Some of the tackling and pressure on the opposition players was fantastic which prevented the eventual score being a complete blow out, so if our kids can keep that up a win might not be far around the corner.

Great to see Thomas Ditchburn and Khalen Pitcher play their first game for us and it was awesome to see some girls playing their first game too – Matilda Ditchburn, Isabel Doney and Scarlett Leo.
Best Player was awarded to Blair Ball and the girls got a Mars bar each for getting out there and having a go.

Thanks to Ricky and Vicky from the Dumbleyung Roadhouse for the awards.
Training this week will be Friday in Dumbleyung at 4.30pm and the game is also there on Sunday starting at 11am.

Numbers are tight from here on in so if you have a child who is interested in having a go please bring them to training.

B Grade
Katanning Wanderers defeated the Cougars on their home ground for the first game of the season with a final score of 16.9-105 to 5.4-34. Goals by D.Leo (3), N.Bracknell and N.Ditchburn. Best Players were C.Doney, G.Bolt, A.Gray, A.Shotter, N.Ditchburn and S.Shotter. Although the Cougars didn’t win it was an exciting moment for the Shotter family with all three boys, father Calvin and sons Austin and Stockton all playing together in the B Grade game (pictured right).

A Grade
Unfortunately, A Grade also went down to the Wanderers but it wasn’t without a fight in the last quarter. Trailing by 59 points at three quarter time the Cougars came out and gave it their best shot in the final quarter to bring the final margin to only 31 points with a final score of 13.15-93 vs. 9.8-62. Goals by C.Wollaston (2), K.Gooding (2), T.Weston, K.Patterson, P.Joyce, M.Roberts and R.Smith. Best players were I.Lloyd, J.Harrison, B.Blevin, D.Joyce, R.Gooding and C.Wollaston.
