Our Ducks had made it! The Grand Final! Playing against the toughest team in the Division 2 competition, Katanning team Olympians 2, the Grand Final was going to be an epic battle. Our team consisted of playing coaches, Carly Smith and Katrina Gray, Captain, Chloe McDougall and team members Alison Peters, Clare Smith, Elspeth Smith, Hanna Chiswell, Kirra Roberts, Lousia Dare and Pip Gooding.
Pumped and ready to take the court our Ducks started the game firing. Quick goals and converting every turn over left Olympians stunned by Dumbleyung’s want for the win. This was not the team Olympians had faced during the season. Flying at each quarter break, victory was within our reach. But a controversial injury time, called by Olympians, changed their team dynamic leading to a run of goals.
The fourth quarter, had the true makings of what a Grand Final should be - spectacular contests, loud cheers from our spectators and a closing opposition on the final score. At the end of the game, scores were even at 46 goals, sending the game into overtime. Fourteen more minutes were required to determine a winner.
In the tightest of contests, Olympians 2 found the edge needed to find the win. The final score was Olympians 2 (58) to Dumbleyung (55). Congratulations Dumbleyung in what was a brilliant game, a fantastic season and a Grand Final to be proud of! A heartfelt thank you to the Katanning Netball Association, our supporters, spectators and families for your support throughout our season. We look forward to celebrating the end of the season at the Winter Sports Windup this weekend.

Thank you to Sponsors Dumbleyung Ag Supplies, Scott Jefferis and Hanna Chiswell & Grainbrokers Australia -
Chad Jefferis for the wonderful sponsorship of the Ladies Day and Mens Midweek 4BBB stableford, the array of prizes were outstanding and we appreciate your continued support for this event.
A very busy week for golfers at Lakeview with. A good crowd hit off after a magnificent lunch, supplied by sponsors Dumbleyung Ag Supplies, and cooked to perfection by John Williams. One couldn't have picked a better day to play golf with the weather just perfect though a few did start to feel the heat, could have been the pressure of trying for that perfect shot too many times or too many drinks!! Final winners
Ladies Winners Margie Ward & Cheryl Snell 47points and it was heard that Cheryl did take a copy to show husband Ron. Runner-up: Davina Gossage & Elizabeth Dare 46points well deserved after their 20holes a few weeks ago with both ladies continuing their good form. Gross Winners: Wagin pair of Jan Painter and Chris Barker 23points, with the Captain missing the flashers in Jan and Margie, it seems she had her eye on watching a ball. Gross Runner-ups: Ronnie Ball and Karen Ward, making her 1 appearance for the year, or is it 2, with 19points. The NAGA going to the Wagin pair of Robyn Dunham and Bron Hegarty who did comment that it was great to get a prize. Mens Winners: Young gun Matty Dare & Karl West with a massive 52 points, and to top it off Karl had to have a photo without any unusual finger signs much to the relief of the photographer. Runner-up the son-inlaw, father-inlaw team of Joe Angel & Lee Smith 48points, Joe was allowed to have his 1 day of rest from Lee's work program. Gross Winner on a countback which went to the last hole, with 34points was Ricky Mott and John Williams. Runners-up Tim Dowdell and Graeme Jose and it was noted that Graeme has now come off his learner plates and is handling his cart extremely well. The Men's NAGA went to none other than the Men's Captain Jamie Dare and Roger Crosby who couldn't stay for the presentation as he was off to pack for his gallivanting to Africa.
A big thank you to all the committee for the huge job completed without any hiccups. To Davina, the Devine catering queen and her crew and all the members for their donations of food, the spread was delicious. An extra thank you to Paul Ward for coming back after the Athletic Carnival in Wagin, to sweep the greens for the following day for the Championships.
Dumbleyung Lakeview Golf Club Saturday 9 September
Well the day dawned with magnificent weather commencing the start of the 2017 Championships with Eric Gossage and Stephen Roberts vying for GOLD. Thank you to Jamie Dare for coming out to make sure everything was above board and we all commenced at the correct time, especially as he would have liked to have been on the lake. Stephen was offered a ride in the cart but decided to walk to steady the nerves. After 18 holes Eric was only two up and Stephen then made the decision to get that ride. Maybe it was the Cart that relaxed Stephen, the excitement of being a dad on Thursday, or the pressure of winning a 3rd Championship that was the decider. Mechanical man topping up with oil for the next 18holes and getting that extra new lease on another championship saw Eric win 6/5. A fantastic game by both boys and Congratulations to Eric. The ladies saw Liz Dare playing in her 1st Championship final in 46years, and with Liz in top form after her runner-up win the previous day, and her pink stick in dynamic form saw her on the green and putted for par with opponent also on the green but 4 putting. I have always said that our ladies play awesome golf but normally a few holes let them down and in match play it doesn't matter. I wouldn't say that we could write home about our great golf, but we did have our bouts of brilliance at times, saw more bush than we both would have liked, noticed the wildflowers and didn't meet up with any snakes. Final score T Bartram defeated Liz Dare. The Men’s B Grade final commenced with Bob Hannah and Graham Ball taking off like they were in a race in their cart, both accustomed to zipping around the course like teenagers on a binge, with both now having advanced to rally car drivers. If Graeme Jose would like a few cart tips please see both men for advice. Congratulations to Bob winning 4/3.
