The Cougars travelled to neighbouring town Wickepin on Sunday August 6. Two of our three teams came home with a win as the A Grade side unfortunately lost against Wickepin. This weekend, August 13 the team will play at home (Nenke Park, Kukerin) against Katanning Wanderers. Scores, goals and best players from the weekends game below.

D Grade
3.0-18 vs. 4.11-35
The Cougar cubs came out firing scoring three goals and six points in the first quarter. Best players to A.Dowdell, S.Doney, A.Davidson, F.Spark and H.Leo.

B Grade
3.2-20 vs. 24.9-153
B Grade followed the winning streak D Grade left on the field winning by a whopping 133 points. Another milestone was all the Shotter boys playing together, though for the opposing side it was great to see! Goals by C.Davidson (6), K.Patterson (5), S.Jefferis (5), J.Ward (4), J.Nankivell, N.Ditchburn, D.Enyon and S.Joy. Best players went to S.Jefferis, B.McDougall, J.Ward, K.Patterson and C.Robertson-Hall.

A Grade
26.17-173 vs. 4.5-29
Unfortunately, our A Grade side lost by 144 points to Wickepin. Goals by S.Wisewould, L.Lucev, K.Patterson and M.Roberts. Best Players went to T.Kelton, A.Davey, P.Joyve, T.Ferguson and A.Shepherd.

For the second week in a row, our Ducks feathers were ruffled.  But this week our Ducks came off the court on top!  Kojonup 2 played a fierce game and their attack were in great form with accurate goal shooting and strong passing - the final score did not reflect the competitiveness of the game.

Leading at every quarter, our Ducks flew in the second.  Chasing every loose ball, brilliant intercepts, amazing rebounds and crafty feeding into the goal shooters, our Ducks were eighteen goals up at half time.  While Kojonup were determined to regain some ground in the second half, our Ducks stayed strong and composed, extending their lead by an additional eleven goals.

The final score was Dumbleyung (61) to Kojonup 2 (32). Best players for this week included Carly Smith and Katrina Gray.

In honour of the Ward family and our beautiful Stevie Marcon, the Dumbleyung Netball Club wore black armbands during their game against Kojonup 2.  Stevie was in our thoughts throughout the game and will be forever in our hearts.  Our sincere thoughts to the Ward family.

Dumbleyung play Broomehill this Saturday 12 August at 1.30pm on Court 2 at the Katanning Leisure Centre.  Get set for a fantastic game! Good luck Ducks!

As of August 7, the Dumbleyung Ducks currently sit third on the ladder.

It was great to see Stephen Roberts representing sponsor Bunge for Saturdays Par competition and we thank them for their contribution to our small club.  Some dread the thought of a Par, but others obviously see it as a challenge and play their best golf.   Stephen has been in fine form and Saturday was no exception, with 3 players on +4, with Stephen declining to be in the count for winner.

Winner of the men was Dave Wall, runner-up Bob Hannah and the Gross Stephen Roberts -9 on a count back from Paul Ward. Visitor for the day Ryan Carmody said he enjoyed the course but will definitely have a practice game before his next visit.  Bob did mention that once again he brought in the winner or 2, must be the cart!!

Ladies winner with a +4 Tamara Bartram, having one of her best scores for a few years, runner-up Liz Dare with an awesome +1 and that was not using the fairways to their potential, but definitely liking the bush. Ronnie Ball made a slight detour from her holidaying, decided to grace the golf course after a 2 week break to play golf, and with a miraculous recovery from her injuries we believe were obtained in Bali,  won the gross.   Novelties were won by G Jose x 2, T Bartramx2 and Paul Ward.   The best part of the presentation was the converted Birdie hole which was won by a draw of numbers. Tamara was ecstatic to get her 1st birdie for the season on No4.

Next week will be sponsored by Wagin Jewellers with a Stableford. Good luck to the men playing in the State Sand Greens in Brookton.

Dumbleyung Men's Hockey Club

Picture
Pictured left: The Dumbleyung Men's Hockey Club in action against Wagin at home (Stubbs Park).
The Dumbleyung Mens Hockey Club played against Wagin on Saturday August 5 in Dumbleyung. This was set to be a tough game as 1st and 2nd on the ladder went head to head (Wagin sitting in 1st/top of the ladder). The game started off well and Dumbleyung looked good with plenty of play in attack and a number of short corners. Wagin defended well and this resulted in the first goal being scored just before half time by Dumbleyung's Jamie Gray with assistance by Mark Smith and Courtney Bairstow.

Wagin seemed to have had a good pep talk at half time with a boost of energy which gave Dumbleyung a challenge. Dumbleyung played well and didn’t stop trying but unfortunately Wagin managed to even the score to 1-1. Wagin then went on to score another two goals in quick succession. Wagin finished the game with another goal just before full time, resulting with Wagin walking away with a 4-1 win. Well done to all players!

This week’s game is in Dumbleyung at Stubbs Park at 3pm against Olympics. Come along and cheer on the men in the second last game before their finals run starts.
