Lake View Golf Club

Lakeview Golf goes Russian!
Dumbleyung Engineering Sponsored Saturday’s Lakeview Golf and many thanks to Nick Green and Pauline for coming out for presentations.  We are still working on getting Nick to have a hit.   It was Captains choice for the game and they chose a Russian Stableford which could lead to really high scores or really low scores!!

There was a good field hitting off and the winners of the day were the young and old combination of Steven Roberts and Bob Hannah on 74 points.  Runners up were Ronnie Ball and Margie Ward on 67 points, who thanked two of the boys who didn’t sign their card for their wonderful prizes provided by Nick Green.   Bad luck boys and no names will be mentioned but I doubt they will do that again or at least this season.

Novelties to Lee Smith x 2, Jon Ward and Paul Ward.  Gross won by Lee Smith and ladies shared between Liz Dare and Sharlene Powell.   James Dare took out the birdie for the second week in a row with Archie Ward, who was chuffed by the Royals naming their baby after him, drew out James’ birdie hole, carrying on from Sara Ward drawing out James winner last week.  Paul must not be paying them enough pocket money to pick his number.

Well done to Ylana Shepherd who played her first nine holes and went really well and promises to come back.     Next week is a Stableford sponsored by Dumbleyung General Store and we welcome everyone along for a hit.   Names in by 12.

Lake Grace Kukerin Hockey Club

Our second game for the season was held in Lake Grace over the weekend and begun with the C Grade. We were up against a strong side this week and went down 6-0 but not without a fight! Great effort and awards went to Gabrielle Nenke and Seth Argent.

B Grade was next and as the day warmed up, the fight became more challenging! We went down 1-0 however it was a well fought out game and we had some great shots on goal. Thank you to the team for running it out until the very end on what was a very warm day. Award goes to Fi Chatfield.

The first home game of the season was a fantastic day for hockey. A lot of the game was played in our attacking half of the field. With multiple short corners and many minutes attacking, to the credit of the Corrigin defence, we were only able to capitalise twice for the whole game. The breakthrough for us came through in the second quarter with Mel Eynon scoring and then late in the game Tahryn Trevenen got one over the line.  A grade award to Danielle Robertson for holding to the game plan and fulfilling her role on the half line.

Game 1. May the 4th be with you. Season opener and it looked promising for a lil rain. By the time the men’s game came round it was all over, sun was out and things warmed right up. Hyden was going to be a tough customer even though it was their first game together and they didn’t know each other’s names. First quarter was back and forward, Souths boys took some time to get into the swing of it and Hyden weren’t backing down from a fight. By half time our boys found the touch and our link game took over. It was a shooting gallery up forward. Some shots closer than others (Floyd). The last quarter saw fitness tested and our ability to hold and control the ball. To Hyden's credit they slammed 2 goals home.  Souths scorers Floyd, Matty Trev, Harry (Haz) Slarke, Zhane Robbo, Jamie, and Charlie. Score 8-2. Coaches award went to Zhane Robertson.

Game 2. Grand final rematch. After a solid start to the season we knew Corrigin were going to come out and take it to us. And they did. Both sides had a few new faces which made for good hockey. First half saw Souths have multiple shots on goals but couldn’t seem to find the net. Our first short corner didn’t come till the second half. Our ball movement through the middle was looking good as a main ball carriers pressed the Corrigin defence hard. Corrigin managed to sneak 2 goals in during the second half. Souths boys just couldn’t quite find the net though (not through lack of trying). 0-2 to Corrigin. Coaches award went to Ben Hall. Next game is Kulin @ Kulin for Souths men’s very first gala day!

Kukerin Dumbleyung Football Club

The Cougars played at home (Nenke Park, Kukerin) this weekend, Sunday May 12 against visitors Boddington. See the results below,

D Grade
The boys played well in the second half of the game putting the pressure on Boddington and scoring two goals in the final quarter. Though the visitors went home with the win, final score Cougars 3.2-20 to Boddington 10.8-68. Best players went to J.Oats, A.Kowald, H.Leo, L.Robinson, P.Smith and E.Bairstow.

On another warm day the KDFC D graders suited up to tackle Boddington in Kukerin. With a few new faces lending a hand numbers were good as 21 ran onto the field. Kael Astbury was skipper for the day and he continued the trend with the coin toss going the way of the visitors.

Once again we were up against a bigger side who had some really good players and we were on the back foot early. Jakob Oats was working hard in defence once again and Lucas Robinson was pushing back hard to help his team mates out. We were down by a few goals at quarter time but played some better footy in the second quarter with the help of the breeze. The team shut the Eagles down quite well as they only managed two more goals for the half.

Teams were evened up a bit at half time and the players became more evenly matched with each other which allowed us to score a couple of goals ourselves in the second half including a 45 metre snap from Kael Astbury! Everyone ran the game out till the end and never gave up. Well done to our girls who play for us also who are getting more confident each week. Another good team effort.

Mars Bar kids- Thomas Ditchburn & Rylan Gooding
Best Player- Hayden Leo
Thanks to Ricky & Vicky.
This Sunday we travel to Narrogin.

B Grade
Boddington forfeited and as a result no B grade game was played.

A Grade
Boddington came out firing in the A Grade to convincingly defeat the Cougars at home. The Cougars were able to get a couple of goals on the board in the second quarter and continued to do so for the rest of the game, but this unfortunately wasn’t enough with a final score of Kukerin/Dumbleyung 89-57 to Boddington 22.8-140. Goals by T.Weston (5), K.Gooding (2) and P.Joyce. Best players went to P.Joyce, J.Angwin, R.Smith, D.Joyce, S.Howie and B.Blevin.

Dumbleyung Netball Club

All ducks took to the court this week! Dumbleyung 2 played at 1.30pm against Kojonup 3 and welcomed two new ducks to the court this week – Tori Denn and Helena Kendall (aka Kenny)! The team found their mojo in the second quarter with some awesome goals by Janelle Bairstow and Jo McCracken. Despite some great goals and play by the Dumbleyung 2 team, Kojonup 3 won the game with a final score of Dumbleyung 2 (14) to Kojonup 3 (38). Best players for Dumbleyung 2 included Petronella Andersson, Ashlyn O’Donnell and Helena Kendall. A special mention to the Dumbleyung 2 team for also matching their score of last week’s game – awesome work for a new team!

Dumbleyung 1 then played Allstars 2 at 3pm. A strong opposition, Dumbleyung 1 knew they would be working hard with strong passes and leads needed to keep the ball in their possession! With great leads by Pip Gooding and amazing defence by Clare Smith and Roisin Ball Dumbleyung played well and were only down by one point at quarter time. Though the amazing shooting talents by Allstars 2 resulted with a final score of Dumbleyung 1 (28) to Allstars 2 (49). Best players for Dumbleyung 1 were Clare Smith, Rosin Ball and Katrina Gray.

A special mention to Jo McCrakcen who played both games (a whopping 7 quarters) - an awesome effort by Jo!

This weekend you’ll find the ducks at the Katanning Leisure Centre at these times– Dumbleyung 2 play Allstars 3 at 1.30pm on Court 2 and Dumbleyung 1 play Allstars 1 at 3pm on Court 1. All welcome to come along and support the teams!
