Kukerin Dumbleyung Cricket Club
As per normal, the bowling was opened by David Head and Scott Gray who started reliably before in the sixth over when David struck twice and then once more two overs later to remove three of Cuballing’s dangerous batsmen. With a change of bowling, Conan Holder and Nathan Ditchburn commenced their spells and continued to apply pressure to the batsmen by bowling tight lines. Conan struck early in his spell to reduce Cuballing to 4-65. Kalan Joyce took over bowling duties from Conan and troubled the batsmen with his off-spinners. Having not played since the start of the season Nathan toiled hard, bowling his ten overs straight, and was finally rewarded late in his spell when he picked up three wickets in three overs. Kalan then picked up a deserved wicket towards the end of his spell before capping it off with a run out to end the innings. Cuballing had plodded along but with a quick outfield made it to 162 off 39 overs.
With a strong bowling attack, Kukerin-Dumbleyung had struggled to make similar totals in the past however it seemed like the day to break the shackles. Dame Leo and Matt Gilfellon commenced the task of chasing down the total, however Dame fell early and was quickly followed by Kalan. In came Ryan Taylor who is starting to make a habit of standing up when required. Amongst some good bowling Ryan stuck to the game plan of keeping out the good ones and putting away the bad ones. Providing the spine of the innings, Ryan watched batsmen at the other end come and go, including Conan Holder and Sam Pearce who put in a good effort of hanging around but unfortunately the chance of winning kept slipping further away with each wicket that fell. Disappointingly, Kukerin-Dumbleyung were bowled out for 105 in the 27th over.
Despite suffering the first loss of the season Kukerin-Dumbleyung are still well positioned with four wins from their first five games. For the next game they drive up to picturesque Wandering before playing the final game of 2016 in Dumbleyung against Cuballing on the 17th December.
D Head 4/26 (8) R Taylor 37
N Ditchburn 3/37 (10) M Gilfellon 22
C Holder 1/20 (4)
Congratulations to Kalan Joyce who has been selected in the WA Country XI squad to play in the Australian Country Cricket Championships in January. Best of luck Kalan!
