What a glorious day for golf on Saturday August 11, at last with a good crowd.  The popular meat packs were on offer from our wonderful sponsors Wagin Meats who have continually over many years given us tasty delights for the chosen few who win.  In a passing conversation about what has been his lowest golf score over the years with Dave Wall, which his was a 75g many years ago in Pinjarra I think, he obviously was inspired to make an effort to try to emulate this feat.  Glenn Ball who was marking his card took note of all Dave’s styles, strokes, putting etc and we will need to watch this page next week for improvements from Glenn.

Congratulations to Dave Wall the men’s winner with 46points and a 77 off the stick, runner-up Marc Ball thought he had it made with a 38points and 88 off the stick but was overcome when he heard Dave’s score, but of course Marc has only been on the comeback trail for a few weeks so obviously will improve over the next month or so.  The gross was won by Paul Ward.  Novelties were won by Daniel McDougall, T Bartram, Dave Wall x 2 and Dave snared the Birdie hole the only one to score and not only 1 but 2 birdies for the day.

Women's winner, steamrolling, or golf-rolling everyone who tries to stand in her way with an awesome 36points was Liz Dare, runner-up Davina Gossage 31points – making some headway with improvement on her scores and has even taken her trusty putter home to get some expert advice  and practice on this stroke in time for next week’s Stroke round and last qualifying.  Gross T Bartram who needs to go back to hitting 100 balls and practising twice a day – just a slight chance there might be some improvement.
Next week will be sponsored by Burando Hill with your chance to improve on your position on the championship ladder, with the last Qualifying round of the season.

Please remember our midweek day on Thursday 30 August and get in early with a partner.

It was Sponsor’s Day last weekend, Sunday August 12, for the last fixtured game of the season on at Nenke Oval in Kukerin. The cougars played Williams at home with two of our three teams finishing the season with a win!

D Grade
The boys were on fire this weekend finishing 68 points ahead of Williams with a score of 12.9-81 to 3.1-13. Best players went to L.Clifford, A.Clifford, T.Medlen, B.Ball and J.Clifford.
The last game of the season for D Grade and the team finished fifth on the ladder (pre finals). Well done to all the boys this year!

B grade
B Grade followed the D Grade’s winning streak and were ahead by 20 points at quarter time.  Though Williams came back in the second, reducing the margin to only 6 points, the second half saw the Cougars come out hungry for a win and keen to finish the season (fixtured season) on a high and won easily by 59 points - final score 15.7-97 to 5.8-38.

Goals by N.Ditchburn (4), M.Roberts (3), D.Leo (2), C.Doney, D.Gooding, A.Davidson, G.Bolt and W.Cook. Best players went to D.Head, N.Ditchburn, B.McDougall, G.Bolt and C.Shotter.

B Grade will now proceed to the second semi-final in Williams on Sunday August 26. Make a day of it and come along to support the team on their finals journey! All are welcome and encouraged to come along and support the team!

A Grade
Unfortunately, the winning streak stopped with the B Grade and A Grade Cougars side went down by 137 points to Williams. Final score 4.5-29 to 25.16-166. Goals by K.Patterson (2), A.Davey and P.Joyce. Best players went to D.Joyce, P.Joyce, S.Capelli, K.Gooding and K.Patterson.
A Grade have finished 6th on the ladder (pre finals) and have now finished for the 2018 season. Well done to all of the team on a good season!

Dumbleyung Hockey Club

Dumbleyung Men played All Blacks at Stubbs Park on Saturday.

With one sub on the sideline and two ordinary games prior, it was an important game to win to help stay in the top 4 going into the finals.

The entire game was extremely hard work and there were plenty of opportunities but unfortunately the ball and sticks just couldn’t quite get them to goals. The defenders did a great job ensuring the all blacks couldn’t score either.

It appeared that they may walk away with a draw but with three minutes left on the clock, Ethan Henry sprung from the sideline, straight to his position, called for the ball, received it and went for a run into attack where in a matter of seconds he was able to poke the ball in the back of the goals.

With mere seconds left on the clock, the men ensured the defence was strong to cement the win of 1-0.

Better players were Andrew Shepherd, Courtney Bairstow and Shane Hall.

This week’s game is at 3pm at Stubbs Park against Riffs. Come along and support our men.

Dumbleyung Netball Club

Last fixture game for the Ducks!

Saturday August 11 was the last fixtured game for our Ducks playing against Olympians 2 on Court 4. All Ducks put training into practice and played well, remembering to land firmly, look across the court and make clear shoulder passes to team mates.

Though Olympians 2 also played well and unfortunately defeated our Ducks with a final score of Dumbleyung (20) to Olympians 2 (60).  Best players for Dumbleyung included Clare Smith, Roisin Ball and Tegan Hall. Our Ducks should be proud of themselves this season with new team members and learning new positions, it’s been a fun filled and competitive year!

The Ducks have a bye this weekend as the rest of the Katanning Netball Association play in the final round for the season. Going into this weekend’s final round, Dumbleyung currently sit in third position on the ladder, and will learn of any finals hopes next week - watch this space!
