Kukerin Dumbleyung Cricket Club
On arrival at Cuballing, the new captain’s worth was evident as he won the toss and elected to have a bat. Damion Leo and Matt Gilfellon were first to the crease as in previous years and nothing much had changed as one of them was out in the first over. Kal Joyce waddled to the crease (his pants had seemed to have shrunk in the wash over winter) and a fightback was on the cards as the score started to tick over slowly on a damp, doughy outfield. A steady flow of wickets were then to fall as Pete Joyce, Lee Smith and Ryan Taylor contributed 5 runs between them in the middle order to send the innings into a bit of trouble until Scott Gray and some big hitting from Sam “The Slugger” Pearce got the tally up to a defendable total of 124.
After smoko the boy’s knew they had a big task on their hands if they were going to win this one. The opening bowlers needed to get early wickets and bowl tight. They were rewarded with a couple of early wickets as the Cuby batsmen were tied down a bit by some good fielding and pressure. One example of this came from Harry “Sydney Harbour” Searle. The wickets continued to fall and after some resistance from a couple of lower order batsmen Cuballing were all out for 102.
Top scores - Kalan Joyce- 35
Sam Pearce- 34
Bowling Fig- David Head- 4/34
Scott Gray - 3/25

Sunday saw the club pairs played and in the ladies event the pairing of Jenny Joyce and Debbie Smith won narrowly from Claudia Faulkner and Bev Davidson. The men’s event was played as a round robin and Peter Davidson and Phil Adams were undefeated and won the event from Tim Adams and Ian Faulkner in second place in a three way count back. The ladies and men’s winners of these events will represent Kukerin at the league pairs on Saturday 17th November.
The annual A.& M. Williams classic will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday this week and a result will be in next week’s edition of Quack Chat.
Next Saturday Kukerin are at home to Kondinin in the continuation of the pennant competition. This will be an important game for the club as Kondinin have been a powerhouse of the competition for many years so a big effort will be required by all players selected. There will be pennant practice from 4.30 pm on Friday for all who can make it.
Of the travellers last week, G. Smith, P. Davidson, I. Faulkner, and P. Adams were able to gain third place at Middleton Beach.
Next Sunday the club triples for ladies and men will be played. All those intending to play in the event please let the captain know by Saturday. Starting time will be advised following the pennant game on Saturday evening.

Tara Ball also relishing the chance to play singles with another win this week. Thanks to Rachael Springbett for making her 1st appearance for Sunday pennants for a while and winning 3 sets. Thank you to Dudinin who at last received the correct Pennant shield that was lost forever but found miraculously after 2 years, so there definitely must be some sort of invisible fairy who returned it to the Club House. A great spread was enjoyed by all at the end of the day’s play, so thank you to all.
Friday night social tennis is back on this Friday. On Saturday the club holds the Championship Doubles. Please get names into Glenn or Tara Ball. Don’t need to be a member to play. One o’clock start with bbq tea to follow. Please bring a salad to share. Meat available to purchase.
