Ducks soar in second win!
After the frustrating loss to Broomehill last week, our Ducks were fired up and hungry for a victory against Katanning Team, Cardinals Fever 2.  And did our Ducks come out firing by ensuring all our centre passes converted to goals, converting rebounds to goals and pressure across the centre court that converted to goals, our Ducks were on track for a solid win.

Chloe McDougall and Tegan Hall, our goal masters, worked their magic throughout the game by clearing space within our goal end for our centre court to pass in to and get those goals in.  Amanda Gilfellon, Janina Blake, Alison Peters and Hayley White, kept the pressure on in the centre court keeping their passes short and direct and ensuring all defence conversions made their way to our goal end, with Roisin Ball and Clare Smith on-song in defence keeping the pressure on our opposition, guaranteeing rebounds and feeding the ball back up to our goal end.

Our Ducks kept their momentum through the entire game, extending their lead to over thirty goals by the end of the fourth quarter.  The final score was Dumbleyung (63) to Cardinals Fever 2 (31).  A fantastic achievement!  Well done Ducks!  Best players for Dumbleyung included Alison Peters, Clare Smith, Roisin Ball and Janina Blake.

In addition, congratulations to Alison Peters on umpiring her first game of netball on the weekend! Well done!  And on news off the court, a huge congratulations to Katrina and Adam Gray on the safe arrival of their beautiful daughter, Makayla Grace.  Such wonderful news for their family and we all look forward to a cuddle with our newest little duckling!

Our next game is Round 8 Saturday 23rd June versus Olympians 1 at the Katanning Leisure Centre, Court 4 at 3.00pm.  See you Saturday!

Carmen and Darren Bairstow of Flexitrans, sponsored the ever popular Stroke event on Saturday the 16th of June. Winner of the day for the men was stand-in captain Lee Smith with a 73 Nett.  Winning the putting competition with 26 putts may show where Smith’s strengths lay. Dave Wall managed to secure yet another runner up berth with a 75 Nett. It was great to see Marc Ball return and he managed to walk away with the Gross prize.

Well done to Lee Smith for organising not only the babysitting but also a group to come along and play.  Unfortunately, this group didn’t quite make it in time to be a part of the competition, as the dark hit before the ball was hit on the 17th hole.  There were a few comments made that perhaps a few balls were lost prior to this.

The Women’s winner was a very happy Sharlene Powell with a 76 Nett.  Despite securing even better scores at the Katanning midweek competitions, the elusive Lakeview course puts the pressure on Ms Powell!  She has been heard to say it is the change and adaptation to the greens which is the issue but the jury is still out on this. Runner up was Liz Dare who continues to play well.

Commiserations to Eric Gossage and Graeme Jose who managed to come home empty handed after travelling to Wagin on Sunday for the Men’s Wagin Open, Apparently they weren’t ‘far off’ the winning score however didn’t quite manage a novelty or even a ball sweep.  It was duly noted that the President’s wife, despite her poor golf form, did manage to at least snavel a golf ball!

Next week is a Stableford competition kindly sponsored by Kevin and Sharlene Powell of KPR Bookkeeping.
