Kukerin Golf Club
Kukerin Golf Club has got another new season away with a bang at the hands of Matt (hole-in-one) King on Saturday afternoon in the second hit out of the season.
Matt stepped up to the plate on hole number 2, with just Jon Adams looking on he struck a beautiful 8 iron on to the green, without seeing it go in the verdict was it most likely has gone over the back. Jon wandered up to the hole as there was no sign of it anywhere, walked back to Matt and shook his hand. The first hole in one for nearly a decade at KGC. The group managed to keep things quiet until after the presentation for Matt, a bigger achievement then the hole-in-one itself.
It was a family affair amongst the winners of the Stableford sponsored by GS Mechanical. For the ladies T King brought some King-luck and won the day with 33 points with M West runner-up. P King got off to a flyer for the men's and was consistent for the rest of the day getting 42 points to win the day, only to be overshadowed by his old man’s hole-in-one which helped Matt to a score of 37 points for runner up. A round of drinks on Matt was a great way to top off a great day.
The first round of the season was on Saturday the 28th with a 3-man Ambrose sponsored by Edwards Holden and we thank Kim Melvin for coming out for a hit and bringing some nice prizes. The triumphant group were J Adams, M West and B Smith.
Next week Kukerin Golf Club are playing for the Browning trophy in a hidden partners stableford.

Sporting their new uniforms, which turned up just in time, the team surprised the opposition with their remembered or newfound skills and teamwork. A certain captain (no names mentioned) had time to reacquaint himself with the rules after being awarded a two minute rest on the bench in the second half, but otherwise the game was clean and great to watch.
Great talking and support all around the field led to good forays into the forward half and a number of shots on goal. Matt Trevenen scored the first goal late in the first half to a deafening roar from the sidelines. Flyod Pryod added to the tally early in the second period and Matt finished the game with a late sealer to lead the boys to a 3-0 win. The award this week going to Damian Trevenen. Thanks to Morrie and Vicki Smith for sponsoring the men’s awards.
In the other games held, the C grade were triumphant after last week’s drubbing from Karlgarin/Hyden with a 4-1 win. Goals from Ashleigh Faulkner and Trenton Medlen. This week’s award went to Sam Doney.
B grade unfortunately went down to a more experienced side, losing 4-1 with our only goal, spectacular as it was, coming off the stick of Amber McPherson late in the second half. This week’s award went to Amber.
In the A grade, persistence and sticking to the game plan paid off with a resounding 3-0 win. Goals came off the stick of Shaylah Medlen, one of hers was a penalty stroke perfectly executed into the top right corner of the goal and Julie Ditchburn. This week’s award went to Shaylah who is Captain of the side this year and is certainly leading by example.
Results from the previous round against Karlgarin/Hyden
C Grade - 2-6
Award to Hayden Leo
B Grade - 3-3
Award to Amy King
A Grade – 5-4
Next week we travel to Kulin again for the annual Roe Districts Gala Day. Our games are against Karlgarin/Hyden so the men will have a bye.

Dumbleyung Netball Club

Our Ducks have had a solid pre-season, having commenced training at the end of March and by taking on Wagin for a pre-season scratch-match in Wagin on ANZAC Day. It is hard to believe our season has now commenced! And it’s been a busier pre-pre season for a few of our members who will be taking in the game action from the sidelines this year - a huge congratulations to Janelle and Regan Bairstow, Katrina and Adam Grey and Petronella Andersson and Danial McDougall who are all having babies over the next few months. We wish them all the best and are all eagerly looking forward to meeting their beautiful little bundles.
Additionally, we welcome Mikey Ball, Leo Gilfellon and Reeva Jeffries to our netball sidelines, who all arrived during the off-season. A huge congratulations to our Club President Roisin and Marc Ball (Mikey), Club Secretary Amanda and Matt Gilfellon (Leo) and Hanna Chiswell and Scott Jeffries (Reeva) on the safe and healthy arrivals of your precious babies. All babies were on their best behaviour for their first game on the weekend!
Wowee – so many babies – nearly a Netball Team created! And now for our team for 2018!
In what is a huge coup for our Club we welcome five new members which is absolutely sensational! Extending a very warm welcome to Haley White, Jenny West, Janina Blake, Leoni Notle and Tegan Hall on becoming Ducks and to our returning players, Alison Peters, Amanda Gilfellon, Chloe McDougall (Captain), Clare Smith, Elspeth Smith, Roisin Ball and Pip Gooding (Coach). We wish you all the best for the season ahead!
We have nominated for Division 1/2 this year, which is going to be a very interesting year for our team with some very challenging games scheduled over the first few weeks of our season. But it’s very similar to what we have faced over the last few seasons – so BRING IT ON!
Our first game was against Kojonup 1, which, as anticipated, was a very tough game. Our Ducks held their heads high against the veteran Kojonup side and played to their very best as a new team and in getting to know each other on court. The final score: Kojonup 1 (75) to Dumbleyung (17). Despite the score, we went back to the Club and celebrated Janina’s 30th Birthday – Happy Birthday Janina! Best players for Dumbleyung included Alison Peters, Chloe McDougall and Janina Blake.
Round two, Saturday 12th May see Dumbleyung play 2017 premiership rival Olympians 2 on Court 1 at 3.00pm. Good luck Ducks!

It was all hush, hush to keep the big secret of Bob's Big Birthday Bash, even taking out his email so no word of the event would get out. Margie Ward foregoing her golf to organise this event and with the help of her grandies, had the golf club looking very impressive with the decorations, cake, lighting, and the atmosphere was absolutely breathtaking. With Howie guarding the door waiting patiently for Bob to enter, whilst we were all holding back our singing voices and waiting, waiting. At last, enter the main man, and boy oh boy what a surprise, as we gave him a resounding Happy Birthday song, with photos just capturing the small, wet droplets on his face, and we all know that it wasn't from the rain!! A very moved Bob, appreciating all the celebrations for him, with emotions running high, thanked everyone. The cake was a work of art by Margie, capturing the large green tuft with the ball on- Bob always looks for the biggest tuft to place his golf ball on and small ones surrounding it are always insignificant. Thank you to all and sundry who attended the celebrations, supplied the party food and who drove Bob and Lola home.
Well, on to the results and yes you guessed it, Bob Birthday Boy won the day with a great score of 38 points, runner-up was Eric Gossage on 36 with Dave Wall once again taking out the Gross with 20 and the Birdie hole. Women's winner Davina Gossage was ecstatic with her win with 31 points and once again runner-up, Sharlene Powell continuing her good form with 28 points. T Bartram won the gross and I can honestly say that there is plenty of room for improvement there. The only good shot, probably due to the pressure of George watching, was on No 1 which landed on the green. Novelties were won by Dave Wall x 2, T Bartram and Jon Ward. Great to see Jon back to golf and to Louisa Dare who looks to be a regular now, enjoying the company, the walk from side to side following that little bush ball, and commenting that she will be taking her Fitbit next week to see how far she actually walks. When winter comes Louisa, you will be able to check out the wildflowers!! but by then you will probably be straight down the middle.
Next week is sponsored by Nexus, Steve Westbrook. Names in by 12.00, all welcome.

Dumbleyung Men's Hockey Club
With plenty of strong play by both teams it looked as if this game would be a draw. With 3 minutes to go Dumbleyung stepped up and managed to score a goal and take home a win of 2-1.
Goal scorers: Courtney Bairstow and Jake Angwin. Better players Mark Smith, Jake Angwin and Shane Hall.
A big thank you to the few select supporters who travelled up late and in the cold to cheer the men on.
This week's game is against Wagin in Wagin at 3pm.
