Ducks off to a flying start in epic win!

Netball is back in action at the Katanning Leisure Centre for what is looking to be another great season of netball!  Our Dumbleyung Ducks took to the court last Saturday 29 April for round one, against a young Allstars 2 team.

This year’s team (including emergencies) consists of Carly Smith, Roisin Ball, Hanna Chiswell, Ally Peters, Louisa Dare, Kirra Roberts, Amanda Gilfellon, Janelle Bairstow, Chloe McDougal, Tegan Hall, Katrina Gray, Candice Ward and Pip Gooding. With a few injuries to the team during preseason, the emergency recruits have already been called upon. We also welcome Leonie Gallagher and Mariliis Koster to the Club and look forward to seeing them both on court sometime in the season.  So watch this space!

With a new look uniform and playing in the Division 1/2 grade, our Ducks looked professional and invigorated throughout the game.  Our awesome spectators were also kept busy with Tegan keeping the girls hydrated by filling up water bottles, Leonie and Clare Smith minding the ducklings (courtside babies) and Chloe as game day coach.  By the end of the third quarter our Ducks were up by 12 goals and in great spirits!

The fourth quarter delivered a spectacular finish with Allstars 2 making a few team changes and the Ducks succumbing to the heat of the Leisure Centre and running out of legs. But despite the heat and fatigue our Ducks held in there to win by 1 goal!  Congratulations Ducks!

The final score: Dumbleyung (37) to Allstars 2 (36).  Best players for Dumbleyung included Carly Smith, Louisa Dare and Hanna Chiswell.

Round two, Saturday 6 May see Dumbleyung play Olympians 1 on court 4 at 1.30pm.  Come along to the Katanning Leisure Centre and cheer us on!

Kukerin Dumbleyung Football Club

The Cougars travelled to neighbouring town Wagin on Sunday April 30 to play Wagin at Matera Oval. The home ground advantage worked in Wagin’s favour and unfortunately all teams, A, B and D grade, came away with a loss. See results below.

D Grade
Final score: 13.6-84 vs. 4.2-26
D Grade came back fighting in the last quarter scoring two goals though it wasn’t enough for our team. Best players went to A.Shotter, S.Shotter, A.Davidson, A.Dowdell and S.Doney. Sponsored by Dumbleyung Roadhouse this weeks ‘Mars bar’ winners are H.Leo and F.Ball – well done boys!

B Grade
Final score: 5.5-35 vs. 3.1-19
It was slow start for both sides but eventually Wagin took the win. Goals by D.Head, C.Davidson and M.Roberts. Best players went to B.McDougall, A.Gray, T.Smith, C.Davidson and W.Astbury.

A Grade
Final score: 12.14-86 vs. 10.13-73
The Cougars were hot on Wagin’s tail at half time with only 7 points difference. Wagin came out firing in the third quarter and the Cougars in the fourth and final but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to beat Wagin on their home turf. Goals went to L.Ward (2). R.Taylor, A.Davey, T.Kelton, K.Gooding, S.Pearce, L.Joy and L.Lucev. Best players went to J.Scafidi, R.Gooding, P.Joyce, S.Wisewould and A.Wisewould.

Dumbleyung Men's Hockey Club

The men went away with a draw today of 2-2 against Warriors at home. The field was looking fantastic thanks to Dave from the Shire. The game started in Dumbleyung’s favour with most of the attacking in their half. First goal was by Matt Gilfellon off of a short corner. This got the men really going on the field with another goal not long after by Scott Angwin, with some forceful attack on Warrior’s goalie. The game continued and Dumbleyung were looking good.

Unfortunately, Warriors scored 2 goals with the second goal in the dying minutes of the game. Still, a draw is nothing to be sneezed at considering this team were the 2016 premiers. With some great hockey skills and a few words learnt by many, the spectators were treated to a great second game of the season. Better players were Mark Smith, Scott Angwin and Michael Atkins. Well done team and thanks to all the spectators who came along.

Lake View Golf Club

The first stroke round, played on Saturday, sponsored by Sportspower Katanning- Ashley & Louise Clarke, saw the big guns come out of the woodwork, with new legged/knee President, Eric Gossage, taking out the honours with a 68nett, stating that he made it round the 18 holes without any help or a buggy, an achievement in itself, though he might be feeling the pinch on Monday.

Runner-up was Dave Wall with 73 on a count back from Howie Ward.  The gross was won by Stephen Roberts on a count back from Howie, and to top everything else, the putting comp won by Jamie Dare, and you guessed it on a count back from Howie.  The icing on the cake was when Jamie & Howie, the only ones to get birdies on the day, were vying for the birdie hole and once again Howie lost out; the unluckiest player on the day. To be fair though, Howie’s big win has been his new grandson in Canada.

The ladies winner Tamara Bartram had a good first up round with a 71nett  and was pleased to be back, with runner up Liz Dare on 78nett playing her consistent game and Gross was won by Davina Gossage, who quite often on the day was heard to be talking to an invisible friend @#*#@. Next week will be sponsored by KRP Kevin & Sharlene Powell and will be a Men's Captains Choice.

Subs are due and are $100 and if you are going to use the buggy room it is $15 for the key.  Fixtures are available at the club house. See you all there next Saturday with names in by 12 or ring the clubhouse if you will be arriving later.
