Kukerin Bowling Club

Bowls during the Christmas/New Year break has in most parts been a laid back affair with late afternoon social bowls followed by a few refreshments.  A number of bowlers have travelled to events around the area with varying degrees of success.

The men’s Southern Zone inter league round robin bowls competition was contested at Wickepin Bowling Club mid January. The S.C.A.B.L. while highly competitive, were not able to achieve the result they would have liked. At the conclusion of the event the selectors named a team to represent the Southern Zone at the inter-Zone, in Dalwallinu  next weekend. Congratulations to C. Bahr, M.King, and T. Adams, from Kukerin who were selected - the club wishes them good luck and bowling at this event.

The ladies inter-league was played at Middleton Beach Bowling Club last weekend. Kukerin’s four ladies returned home Sunday afternoon, reporting they had a great time, although bowling proved difficult in the windy conditions.

Next Sunday will be social bowls commencing at 3.30 pm for all those available. This will be our last practise weekend as the pennant competition resumes the following weekend. We hope to see a large attendance of those who are not away at other events.

Pennants Tennis commenced Sunday (February 4) with Dumbleyung playing Lake Grace at home. The day couldn't have been hotter for our first hit back, but the knowledge of a nice cold drink and nibblies at the end of the day, made it worth the while.

It was the day of relatives pitting their prowess against each other, with some very close matches.  Lake Grace fielded a very young team, with of course the exception of the stalwart of their club, super fit,  Laurie Steere. He was heard saying that you need to keep playing and doing your own thing if you want to stay young (he was off after the days play to go and feed his sheep).

Final score was Dumbleyung 27sets 183games to Lake Grace 7sets 97games.  Well done to all on a great day of tennis.  The new shirts look great - a big thank you to Chloe McDougall for organising.

Social Tennis is back this Friday - turn up anytime from 5:30pm. Burgers and bar available. All welcome. Wednesday Ladies Pennants starts today (February 7) and Dumbleyung at home against Tarin Rock. Our fabulous secretary Chloe, has the new shirts ready to hand out so catch up with her and grab yours. Don’t forget to find a partner or two for the Lawn Classic, it’s coming up quickly on the 17th & 18th February.
