Well, what an awesome day it was on Saturday 15th July, with the rain pouring down for those crops crying out for water.  We seem to have enough of it around the course and the water on the 11th hole doesn't seem to be diminishing, so when you play, keep to the left. The comment was that if only golf balls could float!

It was great to see our sponsor Rick, from Dumbleyung Roadhouse joining the popular 9holes.  Although not winning he was runner-up to the winner Jon Ward, who smashed a great 48 off the stick. Thank you once again to Vic and Rick for their continued support of our Club. The Roadhouse Cup was won by Margie Ward, with a brilliant 89 off the stick and a 44nett which absolutely blitzed the very stellar field of golfers. Margie is the second women to achieve this magnificent feat against all odds.

It is the general consensus that the husband and wife Ward team are competing as to who has the most wins during the season - "Anything you can do I can do better" and of course Margie is currently streets ahead of husband Howie.   The runner-up, Ronnie Ball was crippled with a bad back, after spending an idyllic nine days in Bali with her husband- she seemed to play better with this affliction, scoring 34nett.  Ronnie did mention that maybe she is keeping her head down more and concentrating! Gross was won by Tamara Bartram - not one of her better starts with a great hit off 1 straight into the bush, and of course wiping the 1st hole.

Men's winner was the ever young Captain for the day, Lee Smith, with a creditable 41points and of course you guessed it, once again winning the birdie hole - he did say he would like to birdie some other hole than No 4.  Runner-up was Bob Hannah with 38points and Eric Gossage, feeling the effects of his mechanical parts being stiff and probably needing a good dose of oil, (winning the Gross with 25points).  Bob did mention a page of history was written on Saturday with Bob bringing in the Ladies and Men's winners, himself as runner-up and the men's gross winner.  We all know that this was due to the men playing with some of the young women, though Davina Gossage seemed to struggle on the day, which was probably due to not walking the whole course but riding in Graeme Jose's buggy.

Novelties were won by Lee Smith x2, Marc Ball, Eric Gossage and Howie Ward who was fined for changing the novelty hole to 18 to a longest putt, not 17, 2nd shot.  Anyway Margie would have won that as she was only just short of the green I am told.  Next week is being sponsored by Wishbone Transport, Ray & Julie Justins with a BBQ tea, Stroke qualifying round, Monthly Mug and Putting comp.  Be there or be square.  It is a very close tussle for the men vying to secure a place in the A Grade Championships as there is only the 2 qualifying rounds left to play.

As well as the stroke round a nine hole fun competition will run from 2pm for those interested.  Please contact Lee Smith on 0427 637 242 if you are interested and also if babysitting is required.  Stay on for a bbq tea, please bring a salad or sweet to share.
