Dumbleyung Tennis Club
A new format by the day's Captain turned out to be very successful and with quite a few tie breakers at 5 all during the days play the girls played quite a bit of tennis. The final winners being Pippa Bairstow and Jane Smith, runners-up Cassie Edwards and T Bartram with the plate going to Tara Ball and Jorgi Robertson-Hall. Julie Ramm received the snake!!!
The men's matches looked like they were going to go into the dark with sides coming back from 5 down to play tie breakers the final winners played 3 tie breakers during the day. Very good competition and pairing by Captain Drew Roberts, though not realising till after that the 2 left hander's were playing with each other. The winners in the final with a score of 6-5 and 8-6 in the tie break were new member, Darryl Gaull and Jamie Dare defeating Howie Ward and Jamie Frost (maybe the 40year old + shorts might have been showing their age Jamie). The plate was won by Tom Pearce and Greg Bairstow.

On Saturday Kukerin travelled to Lake Grace for our pennant match which was played in strong gusting winds which made conditions very difficult for all players. Kukerin manage to record their first win for the season winning on three rinks and only losing the fourth by one shot resulting in a 7—1 score.
On Sunday the club triples were played and the winners for the men were R.Ditchburn, T. Adams, and I. Faulkner, and the ladies winners were D.Smith, T.King, and C.Faulkner.
Next Saturday Kukerin will be home to Kondinin in pennants. There will be pennant practise on Friday from 4.30 pm for those available and on Sunday the club pairs are to be commenced. Please let the captain know if you intend playing this event.
Kukerin Dumbleyung Cricket Club
Despite the late arrival, the Captain Kalan Joyce struck immediate success, winning the toss and deciding to bat. A strong cool breeze made it ideal conditions for bowling and spectating but a little cold for umpiring and difficult for batting.
The half-dynamic duo of Dame Leo and Matt Gilfellon went out to open and again the partnership was a success, contributing over half of the team’s runs. Matt’s strike rate of 200 would have been the highlight, if it had lasted longer than three balls, but instead Dame’s 73 was the shining light, holding together the innings. Unfortunately for the team wickets fell at a consistent rate and the innings finished too early with a score below expectations. In the 37th over the team were all out for 151. The only disappointment bigger than the score was that the full range of chocolatey afternoon tea goodies could not be enjoyed due to the need to be able to run in the field.
The team were positive about defending the small total due to the slow nature of the outfield. The positivity was enhanced when a wicket fell in each of the first two overs to leave Wandering struggling at 2-2. Tight bowling by the opening partnership of David Head and Scott Gray kept the run rate low but it failed to produce another wicket. With a change of bowlers, and with some good batting, the run rate kicked up a little and the game started to drift away. A wicket fell an over before drinks to provide some light but it was felt that Wandering held the advantage. Cricket is a funny game though and a quick score checked showed the game was more evenly balanced than was thought with Wandering at 3-80. Another wicket after drinks was they key that opened up the Wandering batting order. Lee Smith and Scott Gray tore through the line up before Conan Holder came on to finish the innings. In nine overs Kukerin-Dumbleyung claimed 7-19 to bowl Wandering out for 107 in the 36th over.
Following the game the team enjoyed Wandering’s hospitality before the long journey back on the bus. This week there is a bye for the Test Match before the team takes on a Williams team in good form at Dumbleyung.
