Hannah and Jasmine Cronin travelled to Bunbury over the long weekend to represent the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association UGSHA in the Year 5/6 Junior Girls Carnival division of the South West Junior Hockey Competition.
All the girls played amazing hockey over the weekend, showing great sportsmanship and making many new friends. There were 15 teams in the competition with UGSHA finishing on top in Pool B, going on to defeat Collie in the Grand Final.

On a cold windy day the D Graders travelled to Brookton to take on the Panthers in the last game before the mid-season bye.
After a couple of wins in the previous weeks the team knew they were up against a good side and it was going to be a tough day. After conceding 7 goals to nil in the first quarter, these suspicions were confirmed. Some better footy was played in the second as BP only scored 3 goals. We gained a couple of Brookton’s better players in the second half but the going was still a little tough but we did manage to score a goal thanks to Khalen Pitcher who kicked truly after a free kick.
The kids didn’t give up once again which is great to see and with a couple of wins in the first half of the season we now have a week off to get ready for the second half of the year.
Award winners were Jakob Oates, Max Clegg and Nate Kowald (as pictured above left).
Thanks to Dumbleyung Roadhouse for the awards.
Also thanks to Troy and Kym Hamon for purchasing new water bottles for the team.

After a week off due to Men's Countryweek, we enjoyed a home game at Lake Grace against Kulin - Kondinin Vipers. C grade went down 2-1 with awards to Hayden Leo and Katie Gray.
This week we welcomed a few new faces to the team which was great to see. With many scoring opportunities, we couldn't quite put one away. A well fought out game and unfortunately, we went down 1-0. Thank you to the team and Michelle Gooding in Mel's absence.
What many thought was going to be a wet outing turned into a pretty good day for hockey.
The game ebbed and flowed with both teams squandering opportunities until the third quarter where, once again, Michelle Gooding found the back of the net to get the girls up 1 nil.
The last 10 minutes of the game was a high intensity affair with the Vipers pushing us hard to the very end. We managed to hold on to the slim lead and finish the game with the points.
Men’s game vs Kulin-Kondinin. After a couple of late ins and outs (10 min before start time) we got on the park in not very nice weather conditions. Thanks to a lovely trap by a Souths full back, Kulin had the first attacking run but was quickly rebounded. The first three quarters was a lot of back and forward hockey. Both sides had many a chance to get on the board. The opening score didn’t come till late in the second half from great set up play to give us the lead. With weather threatening and the field deteriorating, Kulin hit us with one last charge with a run of short corners, but our defence held solid and we managed to sneak a final goal in to seal the win 2-0. Kulin fought hard all day and gave us quite a scare. Awards of the Day went to Scott Connors who played his first game and held his own in the field coming close to finding the net on a couple of chances.

Lakeview Golf Club
Rumour has it that the men’s winner was young and handsome which some found difficult to compute; apparently Lee Smith took the honours, however, is still short a meat pack.
Mention must be made to the four brave souls who represented the club and the Great Southern 4Ball in Pingelly on Saturday. Although the scores weren’t bad, they didn’t get a look in on the podium. Also to be noted is that whilst the sticks remained dry during the 27 holes, they did get wet at the water holes on the long trip home.
This Saturday is the second Qualifying Stroke round, kindly sponsored by Flexitrans. A barbeque tea will follow so please bring a salad or sweet to share. For some more entertainment you may like to head into the District Club afterwards to see Shane Hall complete his MAYyouDARE challenge. It will be interesting to see if last year’s winner Howie Ward would have preferred this dare to eating witchetty grubs!
Reminder - There is a golf committee meeting tonight, Wednesday 12th June, 7pm at the Dumbleyung District Club. Apologies to Margie Ward please.

The Dumbleyung Ducks took to the court at 1.30pm on Saturday June 8 at the Katanning Leisure Centre. Both Dumbleyung 1 and Dumbleyung 2 played at 1.30pm against Djets and Cardinals Phoenix (respectively).
Dumbleyung 2 played well, finding their groove with some great set plays being practised and brilliant defence by Janina Blake and Petronella Andersson. Though Dumbleyung 2 were in their groove the score card didn’t reflect how well the team played, with a final score of Dumbleyung 2 (15) to Cardinals Phoenix (45). Best players to Janina Blake, Petronella Andersson and Janelle Bairstow.
Dumbleyung 1 took to Court 4 ready to play Katanning team Djets. A close game with a three point difference in favour of Djets at both quarter time and half time. Dumbleyung 1 were eager to fight back for hopefully the first win of the season with some great goals by Elspeth Smith and awesome defence by Clare Smith and Roisin Ball to help us get there! Unfortunately, the score didn’t result in a win, finishing with a final score of Dumbleyung1 (32) to Djets (39). Best players to Elspeth Smith, Hanna Chiswell and Louisa Dare.
This week the Ducks both play at 3pm. Dumbleyung 1 will play St Luke’s on Court 3 and Dumbleyung 2 play Kojonup 3 on Court 2. All are encouraged to come along and support both teams from 3pm this Saturday June 15 at the Katanning Leisure Centre!
