Kukerin Dumbleyung Cricket Club
As per normal Dame Leo and Matt Gilfellon opened the batting under quite simple instructions from the Captain. Face off the opener and then get out quickly to allow the rest of the team to pile on the runs. The two openers followed the instructions almost to the letter, leaving the rest of the team to carry out the second part of the plan. It started off well but experienced a few bumps with Cuballing picking up wickets consistently. Kalan Joyce hung around and anchored the innings while the other batsmen came and went, each contributing a little bit to the score. This steady run of partnerships meant that by the end of the innings Kukerin Dumbleyung had put together a solid score on a slow outfield, finishing on 157 off 43.3 overs.
With a solid but not exceptional score, the key was getting the top order out early before they had the chance to chase the score down. Scott Gray and David Head opened the bowling and applied the pressure on the openers. Scott Gray struck first in the fifth over but then Cuballing commenced putting together a solid partnership. David Head, sensing that more wickets were to be had later in the innings ceased his spell after only a few overs. Cuballing moved to 50, only one wicket down before Conan Holder struck twice in quick succession. With the top batsmen all removed and Lee Smith providing great pressure from the other end, David Head returned to start filling his bag. In his last three overs he was twice on a hat-trick, picking up five quick wickets to end the game. After a promising start Cuballing were bowled out for 73.
The last game of the fixtured season is this Saturday at Dumbleyung against Harrismith. Harrismith always provide a good contest so please come on down and watch a game that will surely be more exciting than water skiing at the lake.
K Joyce 49 D Head 5-20 (7.5)
L Smith 23 C Holder 2-22 (6)
L Smith 1-14 (8)

Kukerin will now travel to Kondinin to play the first semi-final on March 11th.
Sunday was a quiet day on the green with our four ladies Bev, Debbie, Claudia, and Therese away at the ladies Inter League Round Robin series at Kulin, and a couple of men away to a bowls carnival. Late report on first day’s play our ladies league team had one win and a narrow loss on day one.
We wish our two teams of bowlers good bowling and good luck next weekend when they travel to Perth for the annual country week carnival.
