The first hit of the day was taken by President, Eric Gossage, who seemed a little bit nervous with newcomers, overseas visitors and regulars giving advice, but as usual Eric hit a great shot, not landing on the green like his wife the previous week, but it was okay considering the pressure applied. The course was in good condition, with lots of roll on the fairway and the greens fairly even for putting which made for most teams paring the course. Eventual winners Louisa Dare, Paul Ward, Bob Hannah, Eric Gossage with 59 3/4, new player Louisa will be coming back to continue her good form due to the boys treating her so nicely and helping her adapt to playing golf, "It was a pleasure to play with the boys" Louisa said. Won't be there next week as she will be wearing the green uniform doing community service at the lake for 2 days.
Runners-up Jamie Dare, John Lee, Tamara Bartram 60 1/6 - new player John Lee was very impressive on his 1st outing and thankfully keeping the team in the running with his great chips and putting. He is working on his wayward tee shots with the ball quite often straying into the bush, but is certainly on the right track as he normally found it like all men seem to do. Watch out as I think his aim now is to win the men's championship and be like his mother, Shirley Porter who the women's in 1978. He was quite impressed with Jamie's absolutely incredible shots from out of the bush and landing on or near the green, also the few straight hits landing miles up the fairway - out of sight and really unbeatable. A few sliced shots into the water with the ball just floating off into the distance. Novelties were shared by all teams.
Overseas visitors and cousins of Margie & Howie - John and Suzanne Hemstock from Calgary enjoyed our fantastic golf course, playing on the sand greens for the 1st time. John, who plays off about a 14, did check what the dress code was before, arriving in casual attire like us all. Good luck with the rest of your travels. Thank you to Lee Smith and Eric Gossage for the lime being spread over the course, and Howie, Paul and Margie Ward for the 3 years of cropping for our Golf club. Also to all the men who have been involved in the new shed which is a work of Art in progress.
