Kukerin Dumbleyung Cricket Club
A cautious start from the opening pair of Damion Leo and Ryan Kinnear (Ryan Kinnear in particular), saw the innings off to a good start, with the ball rolling over the boundary a few times and a few noodles around the corner turning the strike over. The platform was set, and after 20 overs it was looking good at 0/80 until Dame lost his wicket, quickly followed by Kinnear. Kal Joyce and Conan Holder tried to keep the momentum going, but quick wickets again proved costly, as Holder and Ditchburn (Ditchburn in particular), didn’t really require the scorer to use too much ink from her pen. Scotty Gray strolled to the crease and was looking good, until he tore his hammy off the bone, and the innings stalled as the boys fell 25 runs short of the target.
Good effort from the boys but let’s hope we can get the chocolates next week at Pingelly.
Better bowlers: S.Gray 3/28
Top scorers: D.Leo 56

Day two saw a few changes in the rankings, and finally, the Mundaring side of Merv Cousins, John Lynch, Greg Waller, and Geoff Bear come through, as winners after having beaten K. Heberle’s Gnowangerup team to take the lead - despite having a hiccup losing their last game. The last game had its dramas also, with R.Argent’s Kulin team having a win over the Gnowangerup team.
This left the Gnowangerup team in second place on six wins plus 45 shots, and Kulin third on six wins plus 44 shots. The first day winners were ex local Walter Mycock’s team from Emu Point, and second day winners were Chris Carruthers and team from Lake Grace.
The club wishes to thank our many sponsors and also all visiting players for their continued support of this event which is very much appreciated. Once again our small band of ladies excelled themselves with their catering, which drew praise from all visiting players.
Saturday October 28, Kukerin travelled to Kulin. However, as the afternoon wore on, two Kulin rinks kept their lead and the third one gradually wore down their opponents to get up to win narrowly. The fourth rink saw the only Kukerin rink come out winning comfortably. The end result was a 7—1 win to Kulin, with the overall aggregate only five shots.
Sunday October 29, the club triples were played in pleasant conditions. Three teams of men and one team of ladies played a round robin series for the afternoon, and at the end of the day the team of G.Smith, T, Adams and P. Adams came through undefeated, to be declared winners for season 2017-18. The ladies team of D. Smith, B Davidson, and C. Faulkner, were declared winners for the season. These teams will play in the League events at a later date.
Next Saturday November 4, Kukerin will be home to Newdegate for our pennant game. There will be pennant practice from 4.30pm Friday for all who are available. Sunday will see the commencement of the club pairs. Please advise captain G.Smith if you intend to play in the event.

Jo Pearce has lost none of her determination to win, with an awesome display of shots. SJ 's comeback trail after injury, showed she was a force to reckon with. Lynda Gaull, our piano playing genius, rocked up to Friday tennis and was roped into her first tournament. She learned her shots over the days play, with her ever ready smile and willingness to learn, and now not just the kitchenhand but a valuable player whom we hope will continue her good form. Import Leonie Nolte, has been learning this game since becoming a doubles partner with Jamie Frost and great finesse, steadiness and magnificent shots to take out her first win with Jane Smith, our own Spiderwoman.
Final scores for the women were Jane Smith and Leonie Nolte - 3sets 27games, and runners-up Tamara Bartram and Sarah-Jane Robertson-Hall - 2sets 26games. The men were evenly matched, with ‘new dads’ galore, vying for the top spot. This was not to be, as daddy duties took their toll in the end. Old timers Jamie Dare and Greg Bairstow (his first win ever in a championship event after 40years of playing tennis) won the game - 3sets 27games to Scott Jefferis and Daniel McDougall - 2sets 20games. A great roll up of players for this event, so thank you to all!
A big thank you to our sponsors Foodwise and Farmers Centre, who are always there for us. Thanks to Glenn (our own blue balls double faulter captain) and Tara Ball for their great organisation, as always to have tennis running smoothly.
Friday night tennis continues to be a great success and with no Pennants this coming Sunday, maybe a few singles for the women could be played on Friday for those who are interested. Singles is the best way to improve your tennis, and this year the women are playing the new format, so all can enjoy. Come along and enjoy your tennis, partying and social skills - with of course the burgers.
