Dumbleyung Lakeview Golf Club
Once again it was a close tussle between the two young guns in Jon Ward and Daniel McDougall with Jon winning on a count back with 39points and Daniel still very ecstatic about his runner-up placing. Jon also won the Birdie Hole drawn by Layla Smith when on No11 his drive went into the lake, 2nd shot on the green and putted in with ease. Gross was by the travelling ‘Presidento’, Eric Gossage with 23points - all that golf playing on the Luxembourg greens did wonders for his golf! Novelties were won by Garry Bateup, Ricky Mott, Lee Smith and Margie Ward with her 2nd shot easily on the green on number 18.
An easy winner for the ladies, coming back from up North, and on their way back meandering into Dongara for a quick game of golf with Cheryl Snell was Margie Ward with 37points. Runner-up Tamara Bartram with 35points and not to be outdone by her husband, Davina Gossage winning the Gross - holidaying and playing golf all over the world, seems to be all the rage at the Lakeview Golf club.

Kukerin Golf Club
Kukerin Golf Club held their Championship and plate finals. All golfers in the 36 holes matchplay finals were all rugged up and ready to go at 9am, first to tee off for the Mens championship was Ross Ditchburn vs Tim Adams, followed by the Plate final were the experienced pairing of Barry Gray vs Barney Smith, finally Jodie Ditchburn and Marnie West teed off for the Womens Championship, after Marnie won her playoff with Debbie Smith on the Wednesday. While the finals were under way a healthy group of eight golfers hit the course for a friendly stableford that got very competitive with some solid scores.
In the first final Ross Ditchburn was able to gain a lead on the first 18 holes before Tim Adams made a late charge towards the end, but it wasn't quite enough to claim the win as Ross drained a long putt on the 34th hole to give him victory and the 2019 Mens Championship - he won 3 holes up with 2 to go. As that game finished Barry Gray and Greame Smith returned to the club house, after a tight tussle most of the day Barney was able to get a run on and won the match, 5 up with 4 to go, winning the Plate for 2019.
Jodie Ditchburn and Marnie West were in for a long day, everytime we heard a report they were all square even after 27 holes but then Jodie Ditchburn was able to create a small lead and after a wonderful chip in from the bush on number 15, in front of the crowd, she claimed the 2019 Womens Championship, 4 up with 3 to go. Congratulations to all the winners and runner ups on a great day of golf.
The quality golf continued in the Stableford comp, Paul King showed some great form coming off the carnival last week hitting a massive 46 points with 80 off the stick to win the day. Eric Sebatian was next best for the men with a very good 41 points. While Debbie Smith also smashed an excellent 41 points showing up most of the blokes after a month or so of not playing.
Congratulations to Jodie Ditchburn and Marnie West for finishing runner up in the 4BBB Narrogin Ladies Carnival last weekend. Also to Ross Ditchburn who came runner up and Tim Adams equal third (closed gross) in the Lakes Mens Carnival in Lake King.

C Grade went straight through to the big dance last week. Well done to coaches Julie Ditchburn and Nigel Faulkner and good luck C graders!!
Commiserations to B grade who is out of the finals campaign. It was great to see you supporting our club on the weekend!
We knew it would be a tough game against Hyden - Kalgarin (KHATS) with the added pressure of a potential grand final at home. We came out fighting and Tahryn Trevenen was the first to score off a short corner in the first quarter. The second goal came as a result of some great field work from Kaitlin Taylor, who shot a ball off to Tahryn, resulting in a goal in the third quarter. Heading into the fourth quarter with a 2 nil lead isn't enough against a team like KHATS and we knew we had to dig deep to remain on the winning side of the scoreboard.
A grade played the rest of the game with fighting spirit and demonstrated strong team work throughout the day. Goals are the result of the whole team working together and we demonstrated that on Saturday. A field goal from Mel Eynon late in the fourth quarter sealed the deal and we went on to win 3 nil. We secured a spot in a home grand final in Kukerin against Kulin-Kondinin Vipers - Go Souths!! Thank you to KHATS for hosting the preliminary final and for a great game of hockey. Well done coach Floyd Pryor and the A grade side. Good luck this Saturday August 31 and thank you to our umpires and supporters.
After falling short in the semi-final the Men knew it was crunch time. Playing against Vipers is never easy, then add to it being a knock out final, everything was on the line – we knew what had to be done. From the first whistle we gave it hell! After a bit of back and forth and a couple of short corners we were awarded a stroke. Our master stroker in Floyd stepped up and slotted it to give us the front. From then on we kept our push and intensity high, not giving an inch! Zhane slotted a nice goal to give us a handy 2-0 lead late in the 2nd quarter. A strong finish to the first half, Floyd netted his second of the day from a short corner with overhead slam after a shot on goal from Jamie was saved by the goalie. The second half saw Vipers come out hard and apply the pressure but our blokes were up to the task with a couple of good saves by ‘big’ Deano in goals. The icing on the cake was a 3rd goal from Floyd with Harry setting him up to slam one home! Final score was 4-0. Commiserations to Vipers - you fought hard all day and didn’t let up at all. Thanks to KHATS for hosting the day it was very well done and a massive thanks to all our spectators for cheering us on all game. Grand final baby, here we come!
Well done coach Michelle Gooding and then Men's side. Good luck this Saturday!!
On Saturday August 31, Lake-Grace Kukerin (Souths) will be hosting the grand final in Kukerin. The canteen will be available, along with a bar (open from 12.30pm) and afternoon tea will be served after the Men's game.
C grade, A grade and the Men's teams have made it into the big dance! If you're keen to come along and support your local teams, approximate times for the games are below. Times will depend on extra time, strokes etc.
C grade 10am (Souths vs Corrigin)
B grade 11.30am (KHATS vs Vipers)
A grade 1.00pm (Vipers vs Souths)
Men's 2.30pm (Corrigin vs Souths)
We look forward to a fantastic day of hockey on Saturday. Hope to see you there!

Dumbleyung Netball Club
Saturday, August 24 saw the Dumbleyung Ducks take to the court for the last fixtured game of the season - and how the season has flown by! Dumbleyung 1 (D1) played Cardinals Force at 1.30pm and Dumbleyung 2 (D2) played Cardinals Phoenix at 3pm.
D1 hit the ground running with plenty of amazing goals by Louisa Dare and Katrina Gray and intercepts by Hanna Chiswell and Pip Gooding! It was a close game with goal for goal scoring, and at half time the Ducks were up by 6 points! The defence, Roisin Ball and Clare Smith were on point catching many of the rebounds which in turn resulted in some great goals for the Ducks! At the final whistle it was the D1 by 14 points, final score D1 (45) to Cardinals Force (31). Best players were Alison Gray, Roisin Ball and Katrina Gray. This win takes D1 into the semi-final this weekend and will play against Djets at 3pm.
Dumbleyung 2 (D2) had many of their team back and like D1 played a strong first quarter - only 3 points behind Cardinals Phoenix at quarter time. The defence duo Janina Blake (now refereed to on the court as ‘Ja-ninga’ for her amazing on court skills) and Jenny West were sensational picking off rebounds and intercepting passes! Though unfortunately the ducks went down to Cardinals Phoenix by 26 points. Final score, D2 (24) to Cardinals Phoenix (50). Best players went to Ashlyn O’Donnell, Candice Ward and Janina Blake.
Well done to D2 on a great season! A brand new team and many players returning to the court after years of not playing and for some, never playing before. Everyone played well each game and it was awesome to see D2 continue to grow and encourage one another each week!
The Dumbleyung ducks held there end of season windup last night, Tuesday August 28 and results from the end of season windup will be in next week’s Quack Chat.
But don’t wait til’ then and come along and see the ducks (D1) play in the semi-final this weekend Saturday August 31 at 3pm at the Katanning Leisure Centre. Everyone is welcome to come along and cheer on the team!
