With many of Josh's and Jeremy's family and friends playing, and in the stands also, the scene was set for a great day.
The Kukerin team won the toss and elected to bat and the two Leo boys (Damion & Garry) got the innings off to a cautious start but still managed to find the boundary a few times. It was heard that these two batsmen looked a lot like Berg and Fred in their hey day! Dame was eventually bowled middle stump after attempting to put Lee Smith in the lake and Garry followed soon after as did Kal Joyce to the bowling of Ricky Mott. A partnership built between Nathan Ditchburn and Pete Joyce and late hitting from Ryan Taylor and Nugget Bairstow helped get the tally to 175 off 20 overs. Nugget was lucky to survive a ferocious blow to the Jatz Crackers during the innings and showed true fighting spirit to battle through the pain and continue on.
He topped scored for the Cougars with 37 and Pete Joyce made 33. Ashleigh Joyce chipped in with a patient 1.
David Head was the worst of the Dumbleyung bowlers with figures of 0-26 off 2 overs although A Frame was up there also with 0-20 off 1 over.
After a short break the game continued with the in-form Scott Jefferis and very underdone Mark Edwards opening the batting for the Parrots. Like the Kukerin openers, it was a cautious start until an on field sledge seemed to fire up Mark Edwards as he cracked Ditchburn for a six but was then struck dead in front of middle peg half way up next ball and umpire Dart had no hesitation in putting up the finger. Edwards was clearly not angry; he could not review as DRS was not implemented in this game. Not that it would have shown anything different to what umpire Dart had seen anyway. Scotty was dismissed shortly after as was Jon Ward and Ricky Mott. Jon was not happy with his dismissal either as he booted the remaining leg stump out of the ground on his way off, ripping his hammy off the bone in the process. Good hitting from Matt Gillfelon and Gavin Cook progressed the tally nicely and a late flurry of boundaries from Lee Smith almost got the Parrots over the line but they fell just short being all out for 147.
Big Gavin Cook topped scored for Dumb with Lee Smith belting 32.
Kael Gray was spanked for 26 off his 2 overs and Dame was pretty ordinary also, going for 22 off 2 overs.
A great game played in good spirits was witnessed by all.
Following the game, the KDCC held a brief wind up and trophy presentation in the pavilion. It was great to see a good crowd there to see the year out. President Damion Leo thanked all players for their effort throughout the year. Wives and partners were also thanked for helping out on game day, setting up and supplying arvo tea each week which is greatly appreciated by the players. Special mention was made of the Shire of Dumbleyung for the way the ovals were presented for home games. A big thanks was also extended to the sponsors for the 2016-17 season.
