What does our country look like?
The ‘typical’ Australia is a 38 year old female, a decade ago the ‘typical’ Australian would have been a year younger. Across the country a ‘typical’ Australian male or female is born in Australia from English ancestry with both parents born in Australia. If we look to New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia there is at least one parent who was born overseas.
Who is more likely to complete domestic work? Across Australia the ’typical’ Aussie male is 37 years old and will spend less than five hours a week on domestic work in comparison to the ‘typical’ female of 38 years who spends between five and 14 hours on domestic work a week.
We’ve come a long way since the first census in 1911 (105 years ago!) where the ‘typical’ Aussie was a 24 year old male and since 1979 women have outnumbered men!
