Natalie instigated the Boomerang Bag initiative in Katanning and with a band of volunteers now meets regularly to create Boomerang bags and spread them across the community. Natalie will share with us her story, how to get started, what challenges they faced, the benefits of Boomerang Bags and with enough interest in Dumbleyung, help us to create our own Boomerang Bag group.
What is a Boomerang Bag? The bag that keeps on giving! Made of recycled material, local communities transform old clothing, bedding etc. into reusable shopping bags. A free, fun and sustainable alternative to plastic bags, the boomerang bags are designed to live at the local shop and if you forget/don’t own reusable bags, you utilise the boomerang bag and at the next shop you return them – just like a boomerang it returns back for someone else to use in a time of need.
Further, you can share or give away Boomerang Bags to friends, family, colleagues or a bag-less stranger to spread the message of reducing waste, increasing sustainability and bringing community together.
Following Natalie’s presentation, we’ll open the doors to the pop-up op shop with a variety of amazing homewares for sale. There are items ready for your next dinner party, items perfect to display on your hall way table or something for your next picnic at the Lake!
